Hegazi or Hegazy?[edit]

There is some inconsistency as to how his name is spelled in the English-speaking media. I have checked various sites for comparison and they so far break down as follows:

Ahmed Hegazi[edit]

Ahmed Hegazy[edit]

Mixture[edit]

The sources for Hegazi are more numerous and carry more authority than those for Hegazy, which would seem to support a page move. Thoughts welcome. --Jameboy (talk) 21:53, 13 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Support move per what Jameboy said. Hezagi seems to be the dominant spelling, although pronunciation wise they are the same. Inter&anthro (talk) 23:05, 5 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Support It's what he chose for his shirt. TheBigJagielka (talk) 23:19, 5 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Note If there is to be a page move, I think there is a case for moving the footballer article from Ahmed Hegazy to Ahmed Hegazi and move the actor article from Ahmed Hegazi to Ahmad Hegazi (Ahmad matches the title his IMDB entry, though even some of his films listed there credit him as Ahmed). Not necessarily straightforward! The simpler approach (but maybe not correct, and still involves reversing the existing redirect) would be to move the footballer article to Ahmed Hegazi (footballer). --Jameboy (talk) 23:48, 5 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
This is a tricky issue since per this IMDb is not a reliable source when it comes to personal information, so if possible some other source more reliable should be found to make a more compelling argument if Ahmed Hegazi is to be moved to Ahmad Hegazi. Support and move the actor to Ahmad Hegazi (actor), redirect other spelling to the footballer as primary usage. Ahmed Hegazy/Ahmad Hegazi certainly a different form of romanziation of the arabic name, (BTW imdb is not a reliable source, it just ok to survived in the list of external link) but wikipedia chose Ahmad as the namespace of the name. Ahmed HegazyAhmed Hegazi – Common name and according to the shirt name of the footballer himself. Also suggest to move the actor to another namespace Matthew_hk tc 20:48, 8 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Matthew hk: Where can the spelling error be verified ? This Google search and this profile list the name spelled as it is. - FlightTime (open channel) 23:29, 8 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Please see above discussion that other user listed clear citation on name; transfermarkt is not a reliable source. Matthew_hk tc 23:33, 8 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you @Matthew hk:, I don't have too much experience in main space moves, I just responded because it looked like a simple name change. Inter&anthro valid concerns suggest this discussion is not over, so I'm going to leave this move to a more experienced mover, how ever it seems that the {{requested move/dated}} flag should be de-activated until some consensus about what needs to be done is reached. - FlightTime (open channel) 00:57, 9 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Support move to Ahmed Hegazi (footballer) the shirt has changed from red shirt -Y to blue shirt -I after move to WBA. But Hegazi is such a common surname that can't help thinking that (footballer) is needed, as it is on ar.wp. And in any event move the actor to (actor). I've already fixed the actor's links. • Oppose - page views are not indicative of PRIMARYTOPIC. GiantSnowman 11:43, 12 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support - searching his name online, both in English and Arabic, only yield results on the footballer. I couldn't find anything regarding the actor. Nehme1499 12:52, 12 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support Neither the academic nor actor appear to have the discrepancy in long term notability that would justify going against the overwhelmingly clear primary topic in terms of usage with significant coverage in reliable sources, and in reader interest from page views.--Yaksar (let's chat) 17:44, 12 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support, considering the large difference in page views. Adumbrativus (talk) 00:54, 13 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support based on points 4 and 5; also the actor has no impact on everyday life anymore whereas the footballer has. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 21:18, 15 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
