Either the where it says that the only society to accept women is the Maidens of the Spear is incorrect, or we need to add in that the aiel fully accept gay marriage. In the first half of The Fires of Heaven, there is a bit of narrative where it specifically states that warrior societies are often as important, if not moreso, to an aiel as the sept, and often two members of the same warrior society are not allowed to marry as it would be like marrying someone from ones own family. This either says to me that the other societies are willing to accept female members, though we have never seen a female Stone Dog or Water Finder, or else the dudes in these all-male societies are happy to get themselves a real gay marriage. 24.62.27.66 01:48, 24 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Aiel do not have gay marriage, and the Maidens of the Spear are the only society to accept women. I believe the passage that you are talking about is the following:

Some men would not marry a woman too closely related to a member of their own society, just as if that made her their own close blood kin

— page 68, chapter 2, The Fires of Heaven (ISBN 1-85723-209-7)

It says that Maidens don't succmb to the bleakness, even though several times in the novels it says "more men and Maidens went missing every day, an not all left behind their spears." —Preceding unsigned comment added by Alpha Charlie Echo (talkcontribs) 22:07, 15 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

History[edit]

The Da' shain Aiel were called Children of the Dragon because of the belief that they served the Dragon (Lews Therin Telamon) and no other Aes Sedai. (From: The Shadow Rising, Chapter 26 - The Dedicated)
