from:windsurfer88 I was looking for the spanish common name for «ailanthus altissima»

Nombre común: Allanto - MPF 22:07, 19 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I think some of the material from this page might belong on the specific page Tree of Heaven. This page should be limited to material strictly about all species of the Ailanthus genus. If no one objects in the near future, I may just move this material over myself and leave this page as a skeleton to be filled in once more is known about the Ailanthus genus--it would help if we had more information about other species in the genus. Agreed, though a few of the details (despite being given for A. altissima) do apply to the whole genus (e.g. tree size, pinnate leaves) and could be retained here with suitable re-wording - MPF 22:26, 14 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Does anyone have any pictures of another Ailanthus species? I think that would enrich this page. Cazort 00:56, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Does anyone know how good the Ailanthus is as combustible, firewood, for a home fireplace? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 168.202.102.136 (talk) 15:25, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ambonese - Amboyna[edit]

'(...derived from ailanto, an Ambonese word probably meaning "tree of the gods" or "tree of heaven")[2]' The reference is to a print version of the 1911 Encyclopaedia Britannica. In the online version, we find that it is derived from "Amboyna". The wikilink is to a page about the Ambonese people; the page about the language is called Ambonese Malay, a "Malay creole". My question is twofold: (1) Is Amboyna the same language as Ambonese Malay? (2) Is 'ailanto' from Ambonese Malay, or some other Ambonese language, possibly a non-creole predecessor?
