Why mention NYC?[edit]

Baed on the snowfall amounts alone, it's clear that Akita (10 ft.) has a very different climate. So why the gratuitous reference to NYC (2 ft.)? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 116.227.245.191 (talk) 14:22, 23 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Translation woes[edit]

There are lots of them. I left out Demographics (redundant, as it's already in the template), symbols (couldn't get translation), Edo Period history (requires creation of two more articles, which I'm not actually interested in doing at the moment; plus, I'm not sure how the article should be named, and such, but maybe some other time), Merge with Kawabe (couldn't get translation), a lot of Transporation (I was lost), Places (unsure of need), Schools (same as previous), Television programs(?) (see previous, plus I don't even think the translation I put down is right).

For the ones I did leave in, though, there is still a good deal of translating that needs to be done, so help out, people!

Also, in addition to the cities not translated, there are some I have "translated" but am unsure of the accuracy of those.

So it's messy and there's still a while to go, but at least it's a start, right?

車両 means railroad car, but 秋田車両センター and 秋田総合車両センター are really train service stations. Hope that helps. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Xetrov znt (talk • contribs).

Symbols[edit]

In the symbols section in the Japanese article, it lists the dates some of the things were adopted. Do we want to include those here? The whole symbols section would be:

City symbols

The city badge is the yadome, adopted in Showa 3 (1928).

The city tree is the zelkova.

The city flower is the Satsuki azalea, adopted in Showa 37 (1962).

It's fairly redundant, but it does list more information. (Yadome is a kind of mulberry from Akita, but it also has something to do with stopping arrows, which is what the design actually looks like, so I'm not sure how to translate it.) Franzeska 18:48, 1 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

"Cold" winters??[edit]
