KLAC[edit]

Am surprised not to see mention of Lohman's (and Barkley's) work on KLAC prior to KFI. I especially enjoyed hearing the serials "Matt Dilbert, Frontier On-the-Job-Training Marshal" ("Gunsmoke" satire, ca. 1963) and "Man from M.O.T.H.E.R.-I.N.-L.A.W." ("The Man from U.N.C.L.E." satire).

I don't remember them being billed as "Lohman and Barkley" until they moved to KFI. As I recall, at KLAC it was called "The Al Lohman, Jr. Show", with Roger Barkley as program director.

Also, note that the Lohman article says they were together for 22 years. The Barkley article says 25. Jim 05:35, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Lohman & Barkley split[edit]

I was surprised to see both this and the Roger Barkley article saying that their split was perplexing and unexpected. I listened to the duo from the late 1970s until the end and I could see it coming. Lohman had become cranky and unpredictable. He started missing a lot of shows due to "illness." The rumor was he was drinking heavily (but I don't know about that). At one point in the early-or-mid 1980s he claimed to have laryngitis and would not do any of his voices for a couple of months. A year or so later he simply refused to do the voices anymore, which ended "Light Of My Life." The last I heard from them they were doing a remote from Vancouver, Canada (the World's Fair or something) and Lohman whined and complained relentlessly about being there. When the event concluded, neither of them worked back in L.A. The show had a guest host while I waited and wondered why they hadn't returned. Then I heard the announcement about their split. I attributed it all to Lohman's behavior. Shortly afterward, Bruce Wayne (KFI in the Sky) died and I lost track of anything on KFI. ZincOrbie (talk) 02:10, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oh, I almost forgot to add... In the early 1990s, a radio DJ team called Barkley at home and asked if he and Lohman would consider filling in for them while they were on vacation. Barkley seemed most distressed that they had obtained his home telephone number and kept asking them how they got it. At any rate, Barkley said that he and Lohman hadn't spoken in years and "the timing isn't right." Just thought I would add that tidbit. ZincOrbie (talk) 21:48, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
