Giant Publisher's Ad[edit]

The Spoiler Warning[edit]

Is it really needed? I know under the Story heading it has a paragraph starting with "In the beginning of the game...", but that whole section basically serves as a back story as to why Alan has come to Bright Falls, and what has started to happen now that he is there. IMO there aren't any major plot details being "spoiled" here, those usually come further into the game. It's the sort of info people want to know, as opposed to spoilers such as major characters dying etc. ChrisJP 12:31, 20 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Story[edit]

The plot synopsis used in this article differs from what can be found at official website. For example, Alice is not Alan´s fiancée (they´re married), she disappears AFTER arrival to Bright Falls, etc... Could anyone fix it? The game has been released - and it's time for a few revisions[edit]

The Lynchian inspiration is very obvious; numerous tributes to not only Twin Peaks, but to Blue Velvet as well (note the soundtrack choices). I've only played through chapter one, but I'm already anticipating the drive down a Dark Road.

Product Placement[edit]

Why is there no mention of product placement in Alan Wake? Judging by some of the responses I've seen, it has a particularly egregious amount of product placement. Is Penny Arcade a Reliable Source?[edit]

Just driving by; I actually came from Penny Arcade, since I really didn't know anything about this game. I'm wondering whether or not Penny Arcade is actually a reliable source. Of course, I imagine that you could read the policy page and decide that PA fits the bill; I would perhaps ask at the Reliable Sources Noticeboard. I would also suggest that the plot section be heavily cut down. It's quite long, and written in a bulky, wordy fashion that isn't very helpful. I apologize for not just rewriting the summary myself, but since I've never even seen a screenshot from the game, much less played it, I doubt I could do a very good job. I would suggest looking at season summaries from plot-heavy TV shows, or FA-class game plot summaries in order to see a useful model.

Official forum post by Markus Maki as a source[edit]

It can be used as source as Wikipedia guidelines do NOT specify that a forum post is not acceptable: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:RS

Anyone can create a website or pay to have a book published, then claim to be an expert in a certain field. For that reason self-published media—whether books, newsletters, personal websites, open wikis, blogs, personal pages on social networking sites, Internet forum postings, or tweets—are largely not acceptable.

Which doesn't apply in this case as no one can write on the Alan Wake forums and claim that he is a developer and use the Remedy logo. It's not a random facebook page, twitter or blog. It's the official forum of Remedy linked to their official webpage: http://www.remedygames.com/

There is an important exception to sourcing statements of fact or opinion: Never use self-published books, zines, websites, webforums, blogs and tweets as a source for material about a living person, unless written or published by the subject of the biographical material. "Self-published blogs" in this context refers to personal and group blogs; see WP:BLP#Reliable sources and WP:BLP#Using the subject as a self-published source.

Alan Wake is neither biographical material about a living person nor the posts made by Markus Maki are made by someone "random"; the forums are owned by Remedy and the developers ofter write there.

And that's all Wikipedia's rules have to say about forums. Concluding, they do not disallow the use of a forum post in general; only in specific cases detailed above.

I hope you do you realize that wikipedia's entry of Alan Wake currently uses numerous times the official forums as a source (that's even before my edits)?

For example the text:

Any good reason why not, as it was specifically intended for Windows? If it some sort of a scam that they think can fool people to buy Xbox360 they are only making people angry and boycotting Microsoft products. Cast expansion[edit]

Sequel information needs editing[edit]

I read the information about the possible sequel, and then re-read a few more times, and it still didn't make sense to me. It feels like it's just been added on to every time more news was unveiled. Some bits make it sound like something is 100% confirmed, while later bits are then making it sound like it's all still in pre-development. Can we edit this to something more concise?   • This is trivial, but there is no need for inlines in the lead/infobox unless they follow a contentious statement (this lead has none).
  • Per checklinks, some of these references are currently dead links. GameSpot in particular just moved everything around; the content should still be there but the URL has changed.
  • The last paragraph in Gameplay cites no sources.

Coverage

  • The downloadable content section has no mention of the reception or performance of either release. Even a sentence or two would be nice.
  • The Cast section is pretty tiny. It could be cut, or the list of voice actors could be put into Story somewhere.

Psychological horror[edit]

There is no source for this category in the article. A user has been quick to remove it to say its in the article. I've read it through and did ctrl+f search and have not found out. You'll need third-party sources per WP:SUBJECTIVE, so Remedy could call it anything, but you'll require a third-person perspective. As for your sources from inverse, I am not familiar with this site. Is it a reliable source? Don't see anything about it from WP:VG/RS either. As for "psychological thriller" being not too far off, we have to stick to the source. Which is it? If its Remedy, that's not one as that the game company and its not a third-party. If its the other one, can you explain how it's a reliable source? Alan Wake Remastered Announcement[edit]
