Washington

In the early through middle '80s, the Alaska ferries operated from a pier adjacent to the Washington State ferry terminal on Elliott Bay in Seattle. Outside of Alaska

can someone add info on the stops outside of Alaska? Is it just Bellingham and Prince Rupert? 76.66.200.95 (talk) 10:24, 17 September 2010 (UTC)

Bogosity

  • I've heard of the M/V Chilkoot before, but this was the first time I've ever heard of it being a direct forerunner of AMHS. I've also yet to see any sources which support such a thing, including and particularly in this article.
  • AMHS definitely did stop in Seattle and not Bellingham in its earlier years. The southern terminus was switched to Bellingham, I believe around the late 1980s or thereabouts.
  • The Politics section seems to be another tie-in to the Juneau road debate, the main article of which was flagged for NPOV issues. The political battles over AMHS throughout the years are considerably more extensive than that.RadioKAOS (talk) 14:08, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

AMHS History

There are two parts of the history of the AMHS that may require some discussion. First, the Fast Ferries. There has been a certain amount of controversy about them from day one. The second is the IFA, which is not a part of the AMHS proper, but plays an important role in the Southeast Transportation Plan, as well as fleet design and allocation (as evidenced by the current need to divert Le Conte to use ports built for the IFA and then not used by them). Lytuya

@Beeblebrox:I put a section in for Lituya because she is unique within the system, and a bit of an experiment as far as vessels go. Similarly, it is my intent (once I get the citations) to put a category for the high-speed catamarans, and the currently being built Alaska Class Ferries, as each also represent an experiment in ship utilization within the fleet. Not sure I see why they would merit more than a sentence if we have an entire article on it, but that's just me. What isn't just me is the idea that we shouldn't have empty or placeholder sections. If you can't come up with one sentence to put in a section, we shouldn't have that section at all. Beeblebrox (talk) 17:38, 23 May 2015 (UTC)
