Caps[edit]

User:MunsterFan2011 -- I saw that you deleted this message that I left for you on your talk page without responding. So I thought I would try here instead. As I mentioned, I disagree with your capitalizing common names of playing positions such as wing and fullback in this article (and in other rugby articles).

The thrust expressed at MOS:CAPS is that words are generally lowercase unless an exception applies. The most applicable section of MOS:CAPS, which is MOS:JOBTITLES, states that offices, titles, and positions that are common nouns should be in lower case when used generically. Additionally, I took a look at the lead section for the five rugby biographies with featured article status and none of them list positions in upper case. I also looked at the lead section of a few rugby biographies with good article status, and again none of them have uppercase positions.

I think it's pretty clear that these terms should be lowercase. If you disagree, please point me to a link to a specific exception to the general rule against capital letters for common nouns. If you agree, you can either revert your own edits or you can do nothing and leave it to me to take care of the reverts. Cheers. CUA 27 (talk) 23:49, 17 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I disagree, MOS is a guideline, not rule of law, and though it may recommend certain things, it does not enforce them for every single article. While there may be many rugby articles that use lower case for field positions, there are just as many, if not more, that appropriately use upper case and have done for a number of years. Regardless, I cannot understand why you are making such a fuss about so minor a detail, surely there are better things we can both be doing with our time? We clearly aren't going to agree, so just do what you want, but, I beg you, stop whining like a child to me. MunsterFan2011 (talk) 09:55, 18 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
