Composite[edit]

The first two references are about the Alexander Durley who was the head football coach at three high schools in the South Park Independent School District in Beaumont, Texas: the all-black Hebert High School, the majority-white South Park High School, and the integrated West Brook High School. He led the first and last of those to state championships, and may be notable on those grounds, but he would have been 12 years old in 1949 and therefore cannot be the same man who started a career as head coach at the college level that year. I have not yet searched for birth and death dates for the Texas Southern / Prairie View A & M Alexander Durley, but they cannot be the same person. The Alexander Durley who was a college coach was inducted into the Southwestern Athletic Conference Hall of Fame in 1992: [1]. He was also a math professor at TSU: [2]. The Alexander Durley Sports Complex at TSU was named for him. In Beaumont, Alex Durley Stadium at West Brook High School was named for the Alexander Durley who coached there: [3]. Here's a bad transcript of an article on the college coach's induction into the hall of fame: [4]. An article, also 1992, mentioning his wife and family still living in the Third Ward (presumably Houston): [5]. I've now rewritten the article using the references above (except for newspapers.com), taking out the material that I will incorporate in an article on Alexander Durley (high-school coach), which I will draft in user space.
