Copyright[edit]

Copyright problem: I have received a warning message about a copyright problem regarding the content of the Alexandr Vladimír Hrska biography information on Wikipedia. The statement is, that part of the page is a copy of content found at http://www.hrska.com/zivot-en.asp^[1]. And, indeed, it is. The original website is published under GNU Free Documentation License, which should be - to my knowledge - in accordance with the Wikipedia requests (ar at least it was at the time of the creation of the article). The GNU Free Documentation License is specified in the html source of the page http://www.hrska.com/zivot-en.asp^[2] on line 31 (stating literally: <link rel="copyright" href="http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/fdl.html" >). I believe that this resolves the copyright issue and the that the article can still be published on Wikipedia as well. If, for some reason, the GNU Free Documentation License is not enough for Wikipedia any more, please, let me know, what to do next (it is possible to change the original website source to a Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike Licence, for instance - I am just not quite sure, how to do it, so a short help-note what to do would be nice). -nykr- (talk) 22:42, 28 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, -nykr-. I'm an uninvolved administrator who processes copyright issues on Wikipedia, and I'm afraid that the hidden line on the website may not meet our requirements for explicit licensing. I do not believe that "link rel="copyright"" is specific enough for us to positively assert that we know it was the intention of the author of the page to release that page under that copyright. If you are in contact with the website owner, can you please ask him either to place in a hidden comment somewhere on that page or to visibly display on that page an explicit copyright disclaimer, using language such as that suggested at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials? Given such an explicit release, we should be able to restore the content to the article. In the meantime, it's had to be removed, as copyright is not an area where we can take chances. Hello Moonriddengirl ^(talk). Thank you for your note. The website now states "The text of this website is available for modification and reuse under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-Sharealike 3.0 Unported License and the GNU Free Documentation License (unversioned, with no invariant sections, front-cover texts, or back-cover texts)." on two places: in the source of the webpage as a copyright meta tag on line 12 of the HTML code and also on the bottom of the page in a visible form - but in a very small and light text not to disturb the layout graphical intention (it can be seen much better if you turn off the stylesheet for the page or if you copy-paste the line to a text processor or somewhere else). I don't really know how to turn off the stylesheet, but copying it to a text processor wouldn't help - what I need to be able to do is archive the page to link to it from Template:Text release. If you can temporarily make it later, -nykr-, and capture the archive URL, it doesn't have to stay displayed. As long as its visible for that permanent record, it's a done deal. The copyright statement should be visible on the bottom of the page, now. Is the website suitable for archiving this way - does it meet the Wikipedia requirements? I would rather leave the archiving itself on you, I don't want to mix things up... -nykr- (talk) 05:52, 19 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
