Page move[edit]

This page has just been moved from Alf Bentley (footballer born 1931) to Alf Bentley (1931–1996). I didn't perform the page move but I do agree with it, since there are two Alf Bentleys, both footballers whose dates of death are known. --Jameboy (talk) 14:19, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It's not standard naming practice for footy articles, though, and I think (although I haven't checked) that it probably contravenes general naming guidelines. Shouldn't his profession at least be in the title? -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 21:25, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That would be helpful if there was another Alf Bentley of a different profession (not a footballer/soccerer) who had the same lifespan 1931–1996, doubtful otherwise. The disambiguation page already identifies the professions and nationalities. We generally attempt first to draw distinctions based on profession and nationality and resort to years when the former do us no good. A parallel example might be Alexander Begg, which we notice does not use clunky constructs like "…(Canadian journalist born 1825)", etc. — CharlotteWebb 23:22, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
