Untitled[edit]

Hello I was just wondering if the person who created this page has any more information about Alfred Elwes. He is my great great grandfather but I don't know very much about him and would certainly like to know more.

I am the person who created the page, but I'm afraid I do not know anything more about Alfred Elwes than what you see in it. It derives almost exclusively from an exhaustive search of his cataloged writings in OCLC, from which the bibliography was compiled. My attempts to find more biographical information were not fruitful. If you have any beyond what is shown in the article feel free to add it (preferably with references, since it would be hard to verify otherwise). Sorry not to be able to be of more help. Looking for more references I came across John Foster Kirk's A Supplement to Allibone’s Critical Dictionary of English Literature and British and American Authors, which enabled me to make a number of minor corrections to the bibliography (mostly dates, though it did reveal an additional work or two). It also revealed Elwes had a Ph.D. Forgot to log on before posting, so the corrections are credited to the IP address instead of my username. Wish I had turned up more, but every little bit helps. Finally some more information! It turned out to be in the main work of Allibone Kirk's was supplementing, buried in the entry for another author (Joseph Wilson) as a digression. Most of the biographical material now in the article is taken from this work, which has been added to the references. Still scanty, but a lot better. BPK 17:57, 28 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,thanks for all the extra information you provided. I am tentatively puting my family tree together and this site is far more informative than any other I've come across. I've uploaded a potrait of alfred onto the site if your interested in the face of the man you've researched. I will also add more information when i can find the appropriate links to verify it. Glad to oblige. I've added an infobox to the article to properly display the portrait. BPK 21:33, 28 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
