Recent update[edit]

I recently updated this discography, but there were several releases listed before my edits that I did not know what to do with. I believe the "Blood Pact" is Alkaline Trio's fan club, so these probably don't belong. Plus none of these releases have articles. I could only find a source for the Halloween at the Metro DVD, so that was the only one included in the discography. Some of the other DVDs seem more like compilations. And the compilation appearances should be reduced to non-album tracks some day, then re-added to the article.

Well I just completed a top-to-bottom rewrite that includes many of these things, with sources, so take a look and let me know if you find any issues. --IllaZilla (talk) 15:48, 13 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I have no idea why this page is no longer on my watchlist... Sorry for the delayed response. The only issues I see are with the charting columns. As of my last edit to the page, everything was very neat and straight. The inconstant column width for each chart just looks a little messy. Though, that might just the OCD in me talking. Also, this is a discussion I have been meaning to open up at MOS:DISCOG for a really long time, the inclusion of non-Billboard 200 Billboard charts. Alkaline Trio charted on Top Heatseekers in 2001 with From Here to Infirmary, and will never appear on that chart again. On one hand it sort of establishes the band's breakout album and mainstream notice within the table, but on the other hand, as long as Alkaline Trio is releasing albums, that column will continue to be blank. Is it really worth adding? How does Alkaline Trio's one album in 2001 compare to Cannibal Corpse's seven albums from 1994 to 2006 appearing on Heatseekers? Personally, I feel that this chart should only be included if the band is currently charting on it, or spent a significant portion of their career on it. I don't know how to fix the column widths while still maintaining the text that clearly establishes the name of each chart. Maybe someone else can fix this, but I'm not good with anything involving code. Part of the problem is that there are so many different US (Billboard) charts, yet only 1 UK chart, so the UK column is always thin while the US ones have to be wider to accomodate the name of the chart (I don't like using abbreviations like "US Heat"...this isn't intuitive to a reader, they'd have to navigate away from the article to find out what its actual name is, and it's simply more professional to avoid abbreviations). Saying that they'll never appear on Heatseekers again is inaccurate: they may well have a future album that makes Heatseekers but doesn't crack the 200; that's what Heatseekers is for. Just because they've hit the 200 with other albums doesn't mean they can never appear on Heatseekers again; each album is its own case. I think it's significant to note that From Here to Infirmary peaked at #13 on Heatseekers before it cracked 199 on the 200. Since Heatseekers is for albums below the 200, one would expect an album climing from Heatseekers to the 200 would have hit #1 on Heatseekers at some point, but apparently Infirmary jumped from Heatseekers #13 to 200 #199. Seems unusual and worth noting. In any case most of the Billboard charts are not redundant to the 200, they are based on separate criteria (see a recent discussion on this at Talk:Crash Love#Removal of 'component' charts), so I don't see the need to exclude them. Especially since the band has only charted in 2 countries, so it's not like the page is crowded with charts. --IllaZilla (talk) 19:30, 4 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The Heatseekers chart ranks the top albums from artists that have never charted higher than 100 on the Billboard 200. Once an artist charts higher than 100 on the Billboard 200, they are no longer eligible to chart on Heatseekers. (Source: Billboard Heatseekers pop out description when highlighting "more>") I think you may be confusing Heatseekers with Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles, which ranks 25 singles that charted outside of the Hot 100 chart. Artists are always able to appear on that chart, despite their history. I was actually part of that discussion on Crash Love. I think these charts belong on album articles, if nowhere else, but I don't know if a side-by-side comparison of Top Rock albums actually holds any meaning. Maybe one year there are a lot more hip-hop and rap albums. Again, this was just something I wanted to bring up with MOS:DISCOG as I see these charts constantly causing argument. Perhaps community consensus will help quell this debate. To be honest, I don't really feel that the Wikipedia discography should just be a mess of charts anymore. I find the table at Rancid (band)#Discography to be much more engaging as a reader. But that is neither here nor there. How would you feel about abbreviating the chart names within the table, then also providing a legend that also would give a brief description of each chart? Fezmar9 (talk) 17:04, 5 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm a bit confused about the Heatseekers chart, as I've recently come across a couple of artists who've charted on it despite having charted on the 200 at earlier times. See The Aquabats#Studio albums and Misfits discography#Studio albums. How does that happen? --IllaZilla (talk) 22:03, 14 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The chart ranks the top 50 albums every week from artists who have never appeared above 100 on the Billboard 200 before the album in question. Neither of the bands you have mentioned have ever charted above 100 on the Billboard 200, so all future albums from these bands are eligible to chart on the Heatseekers chart. Once an album from either Misfits or Aquabats chart above 100, they will no longer chart on Heatseekers. Fezmar9 (talk) 22:18, 14 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
