Future work?[edit]

I am tempted to tag this for NPOV. The only mention of oil is in the intro, lumber is only sparsely mentioned. Those two issues alone have created a whirlwind of controversy surrounding ANF. None of this is mentioned here and the page offers little beyond what is available from USFS, not the most unbiased of sources, obviously. This page is something I would like to see improve and hope to devote some time to soon. Anyone else want to help? A little team and we could have this thing shining in no time. I agree. In fact, various sections of this article appear to be directly lifted from the USFS. Perhaps culling some of the promotional material tone of the different sections and adding a "forest health" or "controversies over resource extraction" section would help make this article more solid.WackyXaky (talk) 22:50, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I thought there may have been some direct copying. Both of those sections would be good to add. There are also several major bodies of water within ANF. There are three (?) areas of old-growth forest too. The addition of some solid numbers on oil and lumber would help along with the sections you mention. We'll have to see what we can do. I have dozens of photos of the forest, some of which I have freely licensed and added to Commons. I can add a few more if we find we are missing some photos of something we need, if we are, I may actually have a photo of it, we'll just have to see. Lumbered by railroad, 4% of subsurface rights, & Rainbow Gatherings[edit]

Through research I did in the 80's, I learned that the original forest that was where ANF is located was extensively lumbered by railroad. Many of the trails in ANF are former railroad beds.

Also, the Federal Government only acquired about 4% of the subsurface rights. That helps explain while there are so many gas wells & gas pipes throughout ANF, as well as the occasional oil well.

There have been three National Rainbow Gatherings in ANF, twice at a site on Queen Creek upstream of Endeavor, Pennsylvania & once on Bear Creek not far from Ridgway, Pennsylvania.

Those are some suggestions for research. I, myself, am involved on other projects at this time. Aloha! Peaceray (talk) 05:19, 19 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Mead Run versus Meade Run[edit]

Most sources that I have accessed overwhelmingly have it as Mead Run. I am referencing a USGS map, PA_Sheffield_221913_1966_24000_geo.tif, which has it as Mead Run. Downloaded from https://ngmdb.usgs.gov/topoview/viewer/#13/41.6143/-79.0558. USGS is authoritative over USFS, & USFS lists it as Mead Run anyway in other places. I will post additional sources. Other sources listing Mead Run:
However, there appears to be a Mead Run, tributary to Tionesta Creek near Henry Mills, PA & a Meade Run, tributary to Kinzua Creek. near Westline, PA. Both are in Allegheny National Forest. I will contact the uploader of the image to determine the location, as there are no coordinates on the image. Since the creator has spelled it Mead Run, I think we should default to that editor until we receive word otherwise. Peaceray (talk) 07:19, 23 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
