Unreliable sources need cleaning up[edit]

There are 17 instances of using a self-published, non-vetted or peer reviewed primary source (Wright, ed. Title: Old Carmel, Pub. Carmel Residents Association), and 3 instances of using a BlogSpot blog. Please clean these up and replace these sources with reliable references per encyclopedic standards. Netherzone, thanks for pointing this out. When I added this citation, I was thinking that it was reliable as it was written by a third-party. However, since you pointed out it was a self-published source and we can't use it, I have removed it from the article. I am in the process of adding further citations that come from reliable primary or secondary sources. Greg Henderson (talk) 20:59, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
In many articles that you've cited blogs, self published/vanity press books and personal websites is that multiple sources are present. You can't just remove the unreliable source if it's supporting anything. You need to remove the contents based on that source. But, you seem to be removing just the source, which raises the question why you even have a blog source in the first place if it is not supporting anything? Greg, please make sure that the other citations and any new ones back up the claims being made in the article, per the other discussion re: WP:SYNTH and WP:NOR. Thank you. Netherzone (talk) 21:22, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I agree, if I remove the unreliable sources, I need replace them with new citations to back up the text in the article. I am in the process of doing this with the Allen Knight article, but see your concern with not removing until I have a replacement. Greg Henderson (talk) 22:01, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

In appreciation of Allen Knight[edit]

What exactly is that source? It appears to be a column (a primary source) in a weekly tabloidy newspaper. Graywalls (talk) 21:09, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The title In appreciation of Allen Knight is an obituary in the Carmel Pine Cone written by Donald M. Craig about Allen Knight. Greg Henderson (talk) 22:05, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Allen Knight Beloved Eccentric and NOTICIAS sources are primary[edit]

Beloved Eccentric is written by his daughter, Allene Fremier, which is used three times. A better source is needed per NPOV, and possible bias. She discloses that she is his daughter in her essay in NOTICIAS del PUERTO de MONTEREY, a source used seven times. Ten instances of non-independent sourcing. BTW, the link in the article for NOTICIAS is a 404, I downloaded the correct issue of NOTICIAS here, where you can clearly see that the daughter wrote "Alan Knight: A Portrait" by Allene Fremier. A large amount of the article text is referenced to these two sources, and much of the excessive detail. Netherzone (talk) 21:28, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You make a good point. Most of those citations are for the section "The Ship", which she provided a great amount of detail. Since it may be considered biased, I will update it with other reliable sources and/or remove the text. Again, thank you for pointing this out. I should have realized that it may be a unreliable source but perhaps my research "excitement" got the best of me. Greg Henderson (talk) 21:51, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
