"My Circle"[edit]

  • On April 21, 2006 Alltel launched a unique program called "My Circle".

I don't think this program is very unique - as it is simply MCI's old "Friends and Family" plan made for wireless networks. Anyone else agree? 70.106.220.156 19:38, 18 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It is unique, no other plan is currently available that is similar. Strunke 09:23, 28 June 2006 (UTC)strunke[reply]

I think it should be struck. Regardless of whether it's unique, Wikipedia should not be used as a platform for promoting companies, selling services or promoting stock. That's what a company Web site is for. There is much more on this site that also should be struck. 19:15, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

The 'My Circle' program and advertising campaign is the only reason I wiki'd this page... because the commercials certainly make it seem as though it's something the other "big 5" are NOT offering... so I thought wiki would be a good place to learn how this company is different than the others (in a neutral POV). So I think it's important to keep this at least until all the other companies make "my faves" like T-mobile did... then it can be a footnote noting that Alltel changed the industry by forcing other companies to adopt the same offers to customers. Subsidiary companies[edit]

Is there *really* a need to provide a listing of all those corporate subsidiaries? Most of them are quite obscure and are not recognizable to the average person. Perhaps that list should be moved to a separate article. – Swid (talk | edits) 18:59, 24 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate these links as if Googling a subsidiary, this is one of the few places to find the connections.

I agree that the list of corporate subsidiaries is way too long. Corporate entries should not be advertisements is indeed an ad, it would seem. I vote to pull the list of subs off.
It may be worth keeping but in a separate article.

Advertising section[edit]

I'd like to see a section on their slogans and advertising campaigns. Their latest campaign featuring look-alike spokepeople for Cingular, Verizon, T-Mobile and Sprint is pretty entertaining. (And something they got in legal hot water for, too) --Navstar 03:30, 25 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oh yeah! The commercials where the Alltel guy hangs out with the other brands' logos. That should be mentioned. loulou 00:10, 28 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, thats the whole reason I looked this up. im dissapointed it wasnt there :/ —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.231.189.189 (talk) 06:14, 4 January 2007 (UTC).[reply]

206.82.89.114 - NPOV/Vandal[edit]

Would the person from 206.82.89.114 please stop adding NPOV bashing to the opening paragraph. Jonathan Auer 17:35, 26 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Corporate Equality Index[edit]

Should the result of 0% ALLTEL reciveed (the lowest in the study) in the 2004 Human rights campagin be added to the page?--Cosmoincarlow 15:58, 4 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Have there been any more recent studies like that?? If so it may warrant inclusion....Strunke (talk) 07:48, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Simple Freedom[edit]

Simple Freedom is actually owned by Walmart. Alltel simply provides some back-end opertions.

It uses Alltel's network and Walmart really only provides some CS and a place to sell it. Strunke 22:55, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

they will free u of your money —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Citypibb (talkcontribs) 02:24, August 21, 2007 (UTC).

Shareholder friendly but not customer friendly?[edit]

I removed both the statement about Alltel priding itself on producing shareholder value, and the one saying that producing shareholder value is not always in customer's best interests. I think both are vacuous statements that lend nothing to the article.

absolutely true. they are not customer friendly. If they were they wouldn't hold peoples monies for 3 months and tell me they are taking notes. i want a check-not a note book!(

U Prepaid[edit]

Alltel's prepay service is NOT the only prepay service that allows subscribers to roam on other networks. I am a T-Mobile To Go subscriber, and T-Mobile just recently opened up some of their Cingular roaming to their prepaid subscribers.

TimothyOnline 05:16, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fixing that.... Strunke 22:56, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Commericials

Alltel is the fist cell phone company to make fun of other major companies. It started out when Alltel got look alikes of the cell phone primary advertising characters, after a little bit of trouble, they placed a message right before those commericials saying "THESE ARE LOOK ALIKES". After that Alltel started a series of commercials involving Chad, Alltels spokesman, bragging about Alltel's great service. There are 4 nerdy competitors that they show in the commercial. Verizon, Cingular, T Mobile, and Sprint. It should be noted that the man that plays the Cingular guy plays Eric on Nickelodeon's hit show "Drake and Josh".

Bias[edit]

Is it just me, or is there a bias on alot of this article? It reads like company PR.

No it doesn't. The only part that even remotely does is the My Circle program part. The rest is fine and factual. Strunke 22:46, 15 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I think this is very biased too. Some portions seem straight out of the company website. There is a lot of gloss over actual facts. I hope wikipedia does something about this. AvengerLE 08:16, 4 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Absolutely yes. The amount of PR flack that Alltel's shills have laced throughout this Wikipedia entry is shameful. It doesn't even qualify as readable, IMHO. But Alltel is not alone here. Most major companies have turned to Wikipedia as a place to park some free advertising. Junk like the entire entry you see at Alltel should be pared down to a couple of paragraphs, maximum, with a link to their websites, if that. And Strunke, I see your fingerprints throughout the entire history of this article, so I'm not surprised at your comment, above. John (talk) 05:33, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Look "John" i don't work for Alltel and never have, never will. I didn't even write much of this article. And the "unique" comment above I did not write either. I was merely defending it's wording for whoever did write it. The extent of my edits include roaming details, network handset manufacturers, and the mexico roaming pdf file link. So next time you do your po-dunk detective work have some facts jack. Strunke (talk) 10:05, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You must be joking, "Strunke." You have added all sorts of marketing hype to this entry, including the introduction of new partners and the expansion of the company's products and services. All one has to do is check this article's history. Eighty percent of this article can be deleted and still do justice to this company. As is, the entry is just another good example of how Wikipedia has become unmanageable and sunk to new lows. John (talk) 17:53, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
PROVE IT. Go back and show me. Don't just say it's true. Because it's not, and you are a liar. No I'm not kidding you. Shut your mouth or prove it, I had nothing to do with the my circle or new products bs. The only things I have done are fix inaccuracies and what I previously stated. Anything I add is facts only. I have added ZERO marketing hype to this article. I invite anyone paying attention to check.Strunke (talk) 05:01, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Also to help out, my first edit was in June, 2006. Go ahead.....go through everyone of them and look for marketing bs and bias....Strunke (talk) 05:10, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well Skunk, all you have to do is look at your last post. Thanks again for expanding on the company's marketing hype and otherwise making this article read like the company's annual report. You're a real star here on Wikipedia, and I'm sure everyone enjoys reading your fluff. I know I do.John (talk) 04:51, 16 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
PROVE IT. You are an idiot. You have no proof of bias, and are blowing smoke and look like a fool. Show me how I am bias. Go ahead look at my last post. NO MARKETING HYPE WHATSOEVER, the last thing I did was revert an anonymous edit that removed very useful information about the GSM network, (which btw was done by a Corporate At&t/Cingular IP address out of
12555 Cingular Way
Address: Suite 4360
City: Alpharetta GA,
go ahead and look it up.) Now THAT is BS. You don't have to apologize to me, people like you can't bring themselves to do that, but you need to either prove it or shut up.Strunke (talk) 05:28, 17 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No Skunk, you shut up. You have done nothing but add/revert B.S. to this article. You never subtract shameless hype. And take your imbecilic temper tantrums to the children's room please. This behavior only shows everyone how little credibility you really have -- ZERO. Which is why I'm not taking a second of my time to point out to you the b.s. and hype in this article that others find so glaring. John (talk) 04:53, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Wow you are a complete fool. The TRUTH is that there IS NO, ZERO, evidence to provide. I haven't added any marketing hype at all. The juvenile one here is you. Skunk? I mean come on that's retarded. I HAVE ADDED ZERO MARKETING HYPE TO THIS ARTICLE. I have a lot more credibility then you everyone reading this is baffled by your complete inability to admit you are wrong. Look it up dick, prove what you are saying, don't accuse me of something that I have NEVER done. MY BEHAVIOR has been nothing but understandable, you see when someone lies about you, you tend to set the record STRAIGHT. Everyone reading this can check, you can't make up ANYTHING about me. The record is all through the history of this page. Look it up, check it, those are the facts. All my edits have been much more then BS you have contributed and they are ALL credible, valid, and objective. Shut up or PROVE IT. This is very typical of people like you. You like to make edits to pages and vandalize them, then remove the evidence from your talk page. (george w. bush page come to mind?) That's REALLY grown up. Let us see (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=George_W._Bush&diff=85578172&oldid=85566750) Hmmmm. Oh and your talk page had the warning conveniently removed twice. YOU CANNOT LIE ABOUT ME BECAUSE EVERYONE CAN SEE THE HISTORY. OF THIS PAGE, OF YOUR PAGE AND EVERY PAGE WE HAVE EDITED. You cannot lie about me. There is a record of everything, and anyone taking interest in this conversation can check for themselves. Why don't you shut your mouth and stop looking and acting like a juvenile p o s and admit you are wrong and lying about me. Strunke (talk) 05:16, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Damn, Skank. Try not to bust an aorta here. You're unbelievable. Wow. But I can see why you would get apoplectic when being being called on your own s**t. Most people do. Whatever. Enjoy your life, little bro. John (talk) 05:53, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You haven't called out a single thing "bro", i can't believe I just got called bro by a old balding liberal white dude with goofy glasses from san francisco. Listen you've never been to a hood don't talk like it. Look, you are a liar, deal with that in your own time. EVERYONE here can see my record of editing and credibility. I will enjoy my life just fine. Next time you call someone out make sure you actually have a case moron. Most people could present a case of at least ONE biased thing done to an article if they actually have any evidence to think that way. I am normally a nice guy most of the time, but don't lie about me and expect to get away with it.Strunke (talk) 08:00, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Anger problem much? - John
With you, yes.Strunke (talk) 21:48, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You criticize me for living in San Francisco -- and you live in Kalamazoo, a backwater town? I can hear people laughing now. -John
I wasn't criticizing you for being from there. I was criticizing the fact that you've never been to a hood, context doesn't matter much huh? Not to mention being from San Francisco isn't something to boast about in most people's minds. Strunke (talk) 21:48, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I see you have made lots of friends on Wikipedia with your constant bullying and insistence on inserting your personal views into supposedly neutral articles and Talk: pages. Examples taken at random:-John
Bullying: "If editing continues by other users to move it to the area with the other top 5 carriers I will edit it again. Strunke 19:08, 16 July 2007 (UTC)"-John
This comment means, that if people continue to want to move Alltel to the Major Network operators, that I was going to do so as well. Consensus of the majority. This has nothing to do with bullyingStrunke (talk) 21:48, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Bullying: "But at this point I don't care about the consensus and am "voting" major network operator Strunke (talk) 09:51, 25 January 2008 (UTC)"
Again CONTEXT, this means that I was voting what I beleived was right and not caring about the consensus because there was ONE person there, that completly ignored any debate and continued to change the article.Strunke (talk) 21:48, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Bullying: "This is really a waste of my time to argue this with you. This is so simple it baffles me how you don't understand it..."
What is bullying about that? The guy I was talking to was acting as though I didn't make a single valid point, when in reality I made 6 versus his 2.Strunke (talk) 21:48, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Bullying: "You really think that Christians are afraid of criticism from your little website?"
How is this bullying? Some guy put his blog as a reference. And when it was removed he called christians scared of him.Strunke (talk) 21:48, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Bullying: "There is [sic] no two sides to this issue."-John
Another copy paste of a few words of a large very complicated debate between me and user "Squiggalish" (sp?). Completly out of context, typical of people like you. Strunke (talk) 21:48, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Bullying: "I really don't care what you think. now get back to work." -John
I don't even honestly remember exactly where this is from. But I "think", that it was someone editing a page from a corporate company computer of the wiki article subject and making edits to a page (just like the Cingular one above). Again, get your context right. Strunke (talk) 21:48, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Bullying: "Why don't you shut your mouth and stop looking and acting like a juvenile p o s" -- Excuse me, does "p o s" equal a phrase that would be suitable for a website aimed at civilized people? Or good Christian people, as you describe yourself? Wow. Please stay in your Nazi-Fascist Republican state of Michigan and leave the rest of contemporary society alone.-John
YOU called me "skunk" first and accused me of something you still haven't backed up, FIRST. Wake up. Michigan is not a republican state. As if that had anything to do with anything at all. That just shows your snobish liberal facsists holier then thou adititude. When have I said I was a good christian person?Strunke (talk) 21:48, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
And for your view on Wikipedia: "i'm not going to fill out some stupid form just so I can help Wikipedia be a better encyclopedia." Oops. -John
I posted a logo of a public company to add to an article. I filled out the form, but it wasn't up to new copyright standards initiated after i posted it. So I merely stated I wasn't going to fill out another form, just to help advertise some company.Strunke (talk) 21:48, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Clearly, you have personality problem -- argumentative, controlling, bullying, overbearing. Since you obviously live online, maybe you can take a few of your idle hours, study your website "contributions," and show us where you have attempted to cut back the hype of any article -- but especially the Alltel article, which is even prefaced with the Wikipedia admonition, "This article or section is written like an advertisement." Oh, but I forgot. You are not interested in helping Wikipedia be a better encyclopedia.
Little man, you need to give this community a break. If you're interested in making this website more relevant, use your considerable energy to cut out the fat.-John
I have removed things that are un factual and some advertisement like edits. No, I do not live online, otherwise I would take the time to rewrite this article fully. I don't need to prove my innocence, this is America (or rather, the internet), you have to prove guilty here no the other way around. You still haven't provided evidence of bias added to an article.Strunke (talk) 21:48, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The bottom line is. All these "quotes" of mine are on discussion pages, not actual articles like yours. Still not evidence of bias that I have put into Wikipedia. Taking quotes out of context and manipulating them doesn't change the fact that you are wrong. And that I have NOT added marketing BS to this article whatsoever. So if you are accusing me of "not cutting out the fat" then go ahead, but you are accusing every other person that has visited this Wikipedia as well. You are wrong admit it or don't and be quiet and move on. But I will NOT let you lie about me.Strunke (talk) 21:48, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
BTW John, you take some pretty good pictures. I do some myself granted not as much. My favorite one is the light house in mackinaw. Is that the Presque Isle in Marquette? I was just there last summer. Nice place. Strunke (talk) 21:59, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What the?!?!?!? What's with all these rude personal attacks?!?! You are violating Wikipedia's talk page policies. Please follow these three virtues on talk pages:

If you want to carry out arguments like this, Please do so in private.

--[|Retro00064 | (talk/contribs) |] 08:49, 12 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This happened one year ago. But yeah it is a personal attack when someone accuses bias without a single shred of evidence.Strunke (talk) 02:30, 13 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

California?[edit]

I found it odd that this original artical (at least the one I read) included California as one of the states served by Alltel. On the map it shows some small portion of California being served, but that area served is Death Valley and the Imperial Valley. Together they have less that 100,000 people, or 0.3% of the population of California. The amout of customers they have is minimal.

It's not about whether they serve a signifigant amount of people there. It is just a matter of fact that they have service there. For instance, Verizon only serves a similar percentage of Nebraska, but it would still be included because they are in one city there. The wikipedia article follows the facts of corporation.Strunke 19:18, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Banned from NASCAR[edit]

I wonder if anybody knows to why Alltel is banned from NASCAR because the article does not seem to mention it. I guess it will be nice to put a little bit of explanation considering that a ban usually happens to cigarette companies, not a telecommunication one. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pboy2k5 (talkcontribs) 00:52, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know anything about it. I think their "team" just won the daytona right? Not sure how it can be banned then. Maybe ask the person that added the NASCAR section. Strunke (talk) 05:40, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Cool, SineBot actually signed me since I forgot to put the quad-tilde. Anyway, about the Daytona thing. If you check Ryan Newman, the article explains that because of the grandfather clause, he is allowed to have Alltel sticker on his car even after the company is banned from NASCAR. Oh, a little bit of self-promotion. Since Ryan Newman is a Purdue grad like me, I just want to congratulate him on winning the 50th Daytona. Pboy2k5 (talk) 06:50, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Careful you will get accused of being a corporate shill. But seriously, i don't understand the why they aren't allowed to anyway. Maybe that would be a good project to provide a more thorough sub section. Hmm...Strunke (talk) 08:49, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Got it. I decided to read the grandfather clause entry and it seems that the usage of "ban" is indeed misleading. Here's why: NEXTEL is currently the primary sponsor of NASCAR and they happen to be a telecommunication company. Obviously they want an exclusive right on placing their ads on the cars which means that other companies with similar business orientation would not be allowed. Basically we could imagine that an event sponsored by McD would not want to put a BK ads in it, or, any Pepsi financed shows would not sell Coke at all. If I may quote what Lord Cutler Beckett mummed before his ship sunked, "it's just good business," after all. Pboy2k5 (talk) 11:33, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh okay, that makes sense. So really Alltel is just getting lucky having their name in there.Strunke (talk) 21:51, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Reference 8[edit]

What Happens to Chad?[edit]

One thing I am going to miss about Alltel are the commercials with the telephone network geeks. Now that thee merger with Verizon, what happens with the geeks? --Bushido Hacks (talk) 02:46, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure, but if they keep the "geeks" then albeit they will either remove Chad ( :-( ) or they will make him the Verizon guy ( :-) ) or (even more likely) they will just keep their "It's the Network" commercial and phase out the geeks altogether ( :-( x2 ). 8 May 2009 news re AT&T[edit]

I worked on the section to clean it up to an extent, but it could still do with tidying up some more, including citing sources for the numbers of customers involved. ClickRick (talk) 12:07, 9 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Does This Company Still Exist as a MNO?[edit]

I called their business and residential phone numbers shown here (http://www.alltel.com/wps/portal/AlltelPublic/Content?WCM_GLOBAL_CONTEXT=/wps/wcm/connect/Personal/home/p/customerservice/contactus/dscontact+us/) and both times a recording said that they had merged with VZW and that I should call them. Maybe they made this judgment by my CallerID (ANI) digits. I cannot find a coverage map on their web site. I tried entering random zip codes to see if they had service and 33333 worked, so maybe they still cover rural areas, but I'm hoping a knowledgable person will confirm this.
