Edited because silt is not made of sand and mud. Silt is a substance smaller than sand but larger than clay.

No. Alluvium is a type of sediment, usually the gravel, silt, etc deposited by a river along its floodplain. Sediment is a more general term that would include alluvium. Vsmith 17:34, 13 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Alluvial vs. Fluvial[edit]

I think that the definition an explanation of these two terms needs to differ, either by saying 1)fluvial is from perenial rivers, alluvial is not (or at least, not controlled by river sedimentary processes 100% of the time) or 2) fluvial as a subset of alluvial sediments, alluvial being any unconsolidated sediments, fluvial being only from rivers.
