There is a fascinating later chapter in the life of Alonzo B. See. After developing a following of people who supported his opposition to women's higher education, he arranged a meeting with a group of prominent women academics and abruptly announced that he had changed his mind and fully supported the movement to improve women's access to higher education. Naturally he was denounced by his followers.
