Pass or summit?[edit]

I'm confused. The page is titled "summit" and uses a summit infobox, but says it is a pass, and uses a "passes of Washington" category. There's no "Alpowa Summit" listed in USGS GNIS, but there is U.S. Geological Survey Geographic Names Information System: Alpowa Ridge. There's also an Alpowa Creek nearby. The page says the pass is crossed by U.S. Highway 12. A look at USGS maps shows no named pass in this area--and nothing looking much like a pass. There's a high spot along the way, but it looks more like a wide plateau. The one external link here is to the WSDOT page on "mountain pass webcams". It appears that WSDOT uses the name Alpowa Summit for their webcam at the high point of US 12 across Alpowa Ridge. Anyway, perhaps this page ought to be reworked to be about the ridge and not the pass? Basically nothing else links here. Pfly (talk) 02:02, 30 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The hill that climbs between Pomeroy, WA. and Clarkston, WA. is referred to as the Alpowa grade. The road US 12 that follows it is steep and its highest point is referred to as Alpowa summit.
