Which streetS are colourful and lined with shops?? Only ONE road has shops on it.

somebody seriously needs to clean this page up, it's a mess! AR is not a division of Salltey for a start - Saltley's a separate neighbouring area, they only briefly overlap... what to do...

made some changes including ward information, which resolved the Saltley query above! thanks Erebus555 for helping clear up links and references, i think i know what your supopsed to do now!

A history and ethnicity section would be very useful in the article. A list of large stores, however, would be difficult to support as Wikipedia tries not to be a directory. That means, other users may find a list of large stores rather like the page being a directory and will delete it. However, major employers in the area (for example, like MG Rover is to Longbridge) would be good.

I think we could also try and get information on the architecture of the area. This is through the style of housing. This could link in with the history. - Erebus555 14:47, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

should we add in a section on local issues, including detail on the parking problems, redevelopment etc? ethnicity might actually be quite hard, i tried that with the washwood heath census stuff, but as you commented, that covers the ward, not The Rock--UKbandit 14:50, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

Large notable redevelopment schemes and major issues could be added. Adding individual parking problems might not be worth doing. With all new information added, there needs to be a link to another source (website, book etc) that supports it. - Erebus555 15:08, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

Congestion would be OK but not worth going into details about. The World War II stuff would be fine as long as it was from a neutral point of view and factual information, without any opinions highlighted in the articles themselves, was used. - Erebus555 15:23, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

Major errors

There are serious errors in this article. Many of the people editing this entry are possibly from Alum Rock where many of the residents are not completely sure of the boundaries of Alum Rock and where it is situated. Most completely confuse Alum Rock (closer to Stechford) with Saltley, the main shopping area near the Saltley Gate. They overlap but are geographically distintively different.

Please can soemone take a look at the format of the Saltley entry and amend this 'Alum Rock' one accordingly. Much of the attributes given to Alum Rock belong to Saltley, including the shopping district and the Saltley Gate Peace Group mentioned in tha article.

I think we should omit personal interpretations and stick to the accurate locations of Alum Rock and Saltley as featured and used on official government and council records, maps and police.

Origin of the name

Proposed Deletion

This article should be deleted or completely reworked and started from scratch. So far it consists of information about recognised areas and wards including Saltley, Washwood Heath, Ward End and Hodge Hill which are covered well in those Wikipedia entries and DO NOT need to be reproduced here.

Although local residents may refer to an overlapping area along these wards as 'Alum Rock', this is not reason enough to provide the same area already covered a completely separate entry. If a more accurate article can be written on the real geographic and officially city recognised 'Alum Rock' which may be located closer to Stechford and Hodge Hill (and not to be confused with Saltley/Washwood Heath) then this need to be created anew but if it remains as a mish-mash of confusing attributed belonging to neighbouring areas, it should be deleted. Why not just redirect 'Alum Rock' to the 'Saltley' entry seeing as they are pretty much the same area. 'Alum Rock' doesn't have enough attributes to warrant a separate entry. Most residents refer to it wrongly. As a resident myself, I agree with a deletion of this entry and a redirection to 'Saltley' which describes the area accurately and effectively. 94.173.184.172 (talk) 23:48, 25 October 2010 (UTC)
