Departures[edit]

Why did Scott leave the show? To pursue other ventures. He left on a good note with the shop.

On the show, the only thought that Mike was using Boyd's computers to do that work, but they never said for sure either way. I've never read anything either, so unless it can be sourced, that part needs to be removed and just state the Mike was fired for working for Foose. There was an episode where Boyd Coddington explicitly states this. Whether it's accurate or not is up for interpretation. Being that the workers put in so much overtime it's hard to say if/when Mike was on the clock, and as viewers we are not privy to that information. Regardless, since the accusation was directly made by Boyd who is the employer means that it is definitive. Mike was seen in at least one episode of Overhaulin' so he seem to have some connection to Chip Foose.

I just wanted to say that I had seen this Mike on an episode of "Wheeler Dealers" recently where the presenter Mike went for some custom made spacing shims. The CNC machinery looked to be very advanced and expensive! So I will assume that he has set up on his own and doing OK as I didn't see the shop name but there was certainly nom mention of Chip Foose. The dude with the frozen face muscles[edit]

Mike was injured in a car crash out on El Mirage Dry Lake.

The show's fate?[edit]

It was cancelled and Hot Rods By Boyd closed in 2008. The site is now the mailing address for the Coddington Foundation, the charity set up by Boyd and his wife, Jo, in 2005 to help terminal sick children.

Run date?[edit]

Max Hemi?[edit]

I know it's way after the facts, but this is the first time that they are showing American Hotrod in UK, so does anyone know what happened to the 17-year-old Max Cohen? He was the car-mad teenager with leukaemia who helped redesign a 63 Dodge Polara with Boyd. They called it the Max Hemi. At the end of the three-parter, it was made clear his cancer was terminal and he had under a year to live. This was all in 2005, so I know it's wishful thinking but is he still alive?

It would be nice to think so, because it just feels sad and weird watching a five year old TV show for the first time with a smiling chippy teenager who may have since passed away. Like Boyd, too! Great shames.

Really? Then the episodes with him are pretty cynical, they must have mentioned a thousand times that he had "terminal " leukemia and the whole experience was for him. How ironical he ended up outliving Coddington then. Especially as he said that he was having the car built as a testimony to the kid. The episode you speak of is called "31 Truck 1" and part of the show was the 2nd annual Coddington Foundation Event. Max was very positive he had "kicked it's arse". Sadly it wasnt the case. This is Max's father - At the time the shows were filmed, Max's doctor's and his treatment protocol, claimed a 14% chance of 5 year survival. Max is still with us today at age 25. For those who who posted nasty comments, we can only pray that you never have to go through what Max went through. Three years of daily intensive Chemo is not pretty. There was a guy named Charlie on an episode of aahr. Does anyone know what he's up to lately?
