Good article nomination[edit]

Well, it met standards, but I think that someone who definately knows how to pronounce it should put a phonetic explaination at the beginning of the article, as other articles do.--Dark Green 00:40, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Giant metal phallus[edit]

I'm surprised there is no mention of the unavoidable fact that they look like giant, red penises. As apropos as this is for Amsterdam's red light district, there should be some explanation as to why they were designed like this. I mean, there's a hole on the top and everything. I don't know how to put this... Yes, it can. It's rather easy to make something look like a penis by accident. If you want to put a claim in the article that Amsterdammertjes were designed to look like penises, find a source. The observation that they're phallic, while rather obvious, hasn't had enough independent mention to be notable AFAICT. 194.151.6.70 08:26, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Amsterdammertjes originally were cannon tubes (and they were fatter), which explains their shape. The hole on top is probably functional or a production artifact, but I can't find anything about it on the web. --Jjdmol (talk) 06:53, 13 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

capitalization[edit]

This word is used lowercase in Dutch. However I'm not sure if it's used in this article as an English loanword? If not, it should be lowercased throughout. "Amsterdammertje" is the diminutive form for "a person from Amsterdam" not the traffic bollard referred to in this article. --Azertus (talk) 23:08, 25 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
