Relevance of this article[edit]

The history of this article suggests it was created because this 1798 act has apparently been used in published arguments against the claim that the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (aka "Obamacare") is an unprecedented application of Federal authority. There is a large problem with this article being used mostly in arguments about the ACA. It is an important act due to it being the origin of the US Public Health Service, one of the uniformed service branches. There also is a misconception that this is a homeland security initiative. Though the Forbes article does go into the history, it's an opinion piece that doesn't realize the importance of infectious disease in the context of interstate and international commerce in the 19th century and how infectious disease and homeland security were thought of as the same in that era.
