Tallest brick stack?[edit]

Recover from Archive 1:
The chimney flue in Port Pirie, South Australia (for the lead smelter there) is 205m tall (so it's taller than the Anaconda smelter stack) and I remember man who used to work there (during it's construction in the 1970s) saying that it was built entirely out of bricks. But I'll have to find some hard evidence for that. The 205 m tall stack of the Port Pirie lead smelter is made of reinforced concrete with a lining of bricks according to archival photos at Maywald Memories. Find "stack". A line drawing entitled "Tall Stack Project" states 350,000 bricks were used for its internal lining, as well as a "concrete shell" with reinforcements, that is, rebar as shown in accompanying photos. — Joe Kress (talk) 21:50, 14 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Smelter stack vs smoke stack[edit]

Seems calling this, and things like it, a smoke stack is much more common. It's technically a smelter stack, but people seem to call these things smoke stacks. The park is call Anaconda smoke stack state park. WP:commonname. 208.117.96.2 (talk) 18:06, 10 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This is specifically the smoke stack OF the Anaconda Smelter though, and the most commonly used term for it in wp:reliable sources is Anaconda Smelter Stack, rather than the wp:synth name "Anaconda smoke stack"--Kev min § 19:29, 10 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

First, you obviously don't know what wp:SYNTH means if you think it can apply to a two word term. Do not combine material from multiple sources to reach or imply a conclusion not explicitly stated by any source. Are you suggesting that I got the word smoke from one source and stack from another, then concluded it should be called a smoke stack?

Secondly, maybe actually check the sources before you make a claim about their contents. Most of them use the term smoke stack, some use the term smelter stack and also smoke stack, while a small minority use only smelter stack.
