Fair use rationale for Image:Aor cover.jpg[edit]

Image:Aor cover.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Clarifying that Stegner's "permission" to quote Foote's writing was based on a false promise[edit]

In this article, Sands Hall, the playwright of Fair Use, a play about Stegner's plagiarism, notes that, "Contemporary reviewers... defend Stegner... by insisting, as Stegner himself did, that the family gave him permission. But that permission, if it was indeed granted, seems to have been secured under false pretenses. There’s that 1967 letter, in which he tells Janet that the novel would involve no direct quotations...."

Based on this, I think this article's comment that "The controversy is somewhat tempered since Stegner had received permission to use Foote's writings, implying as much in the book's acknowledgments page" is misleading and should be changed to say something more like "While Stegner's defenders have claimed that he had received permission to use Foote's writings, his accusers point out that he secured that permission after saying that his novel would not use any direct quotations, a promise that was extensively broken throughout the novel."
