Improving article

This article could be improved by:

1. Relating more of the adaptations to the different evolutionary forces that have influenced them 2. Adding categories of morphological defenses 3. Including more sources that pertain to the evolutionary aspect (adaptation) of this article

1. More examples of morphological defenses 2. Mention of poison defenses of any kind (dart frog, lubber grasshopper, salamanders) 3.No mention of plants or seeds as a category. --White.2015 (talk) 01:37, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

Thomson's gazelles  ??

Taken from article: "Thomson’s gazelles that stot so as to advertise unprofitability" Any ideas what the typo should really reflect? WBardwin 07:35, 1 May 2005 (UTC)

It's a real word - see stotting. Richard001 09:11, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

Lacks sources

And makes some bizzare claims about 3 animals which i'm skeptical of (the claims, not the animals). Also, the thing about the malaysian ant, I can't find a reference on it outside of wikipedia. 82.69.80.47 (talk) 17:10, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

It's tagged as needing more references. If you doubt the claim, look at who added them and try to judge. You may still be able to contact the person if they are still active (or maybe email?), in which case they should be able to give you the sources from which they obtained this knowledge (or concede that it should be deleted). Actually, it was User:War Damn Eagle, who is long gone and never added much to begin with. The article needs a huge amount of work, as well as an assessment of how it fits into Wikipedia as a whole: what its scope should be, whether it should be merged with others, what it should summarize etc. Richard001 (talk) 09:37, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
Agree. Macdonald-ross (talk) 06:04, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

I've added all the references requested so far (spare the ant one, seeing as google seems flooded with people quoting us). If anyone wishes to scan the article, and place and {{fact}} tags on dubious sounding facts, I'd be happy to add refs - Anxietycello (talk) 00:41, 30 December 2008 (UTC)

It's still quite short at the moment, I think. I don't know if animals and plants should be dealt with separately either; in any case plants are dealt with very briefly and other taxa are left out. Also needs more red links for the huge number of potential articles out there. Those are just some thoughts; I haven't reread the article for a little while now. Category?

Perhaps a Category:Antipredator adaptations is appropriate? Could be good for people looking for further info/examples, and I'm seeing more and more articles of this nature (e.g. I discovered ultrasound avoidance) today. Richard001 (talk) 03:32, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

Absolutely, I think that's a brilliant idea. Anxietycello (talk) 14:18, 18 June 2010 (UTC)
Have gone ahead and created it just now. I'm thinking about writing an article about insect defenses and will add it to the category if I do. Richard001 (talk) 16:08, 16 July 2010 (UTC)

Worthy of Good Article status?

Anyone else think this should be a Good Article? Seems to meet the criteria! -- Anxietycello (talk) 14:17, 21 August 2010 (UTC)

Aphid feeding on plant sap

The prickly leaves of the Monkey Puzzle tree

There is a picture at the bottom of the article with the caption "Aphid feeding on plant sap." I'm curious as to how this is an antipredator adaptation. It isn't explained in the article or caption. I could make some stretch hypothesis about their association with ants, but I'm not sure that is antipredator adaptation and not simply symbiosis. WDavis1911 (talk) 16:53, 11 September 2010 (UTC)

It's supposed to represent herbivory. You're right though, it could be clearer. Although it certainly isn't symbiosis - how could the plant be benefiting? Anxietycello (talk) 12:16, 29 September 2010 (UTC)
How about the picture on the right to replace it? Anxietycello (talk) 12:21, 29 September 2010 (UTC)

Spelling: defense vs defence

Hello All,

There are two spellings of defense/defence throughout this article. I have decided to change all to the American spelling as there are 8 occurrences of 'defense' & 7 of 'defence' within the article. Of course, I have not altered the form of the word 'defence' when it occurs in the titles of references. Thanks. SaturnCat (talk) 17:00, 22 April 2012 (UTC)

-- I suppose we could also change 'colour' to 'color', but I'm not going to do that now. SaturnCat (talk) 17:17, 22 April 2012 (UTC)

Crypsis and Mimicry

For the crypsis section, more can be added on the different types of crypsis and mimicry and their relations to one anther. This will help people better understand the differences between them. In an article by John Endler, he has a table showing these relations and definitions.[1]This will help to better distinguish between these terms.

Another suggestion for mimicry would be to talk about behavioral mimicry, when an animal mimics the movement of a model animal. The animal avoids detection by mimicking movements of a less preyed upon species. This has been documented in octopus species. Ignasiak.6 (talk) 00:45, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
