Global info[edit]

I've added a considerable bit to the original draft of this page to give it the preferred "global" flavor. I would greatly apprecaite input from Wikipeia editors in various countries to chime in on: 1.) Your nation's laws concerning antique guns, and 2.) Lists of gun makers that are popular with collectors in your nation. Thanks! - Jeff Trasel

For what it's worth, the "1898" cut-off date is rather arbitrary... I know it's the US legal cut-off date, but in Australia the date is 1901, and the UK has no specific date. There were no advances in firearms technology that made a gun made in 1897 any different from one made in 1901, and so I think the entire article may need a reworking from "Guns made before (SPECIFIC DATE)" to "Pre- WWI era firearms for which you can no longer get ammunition", which seems to encompass most firearms that could reasonably be considered "Antique" without getting into semantics over which country's cut-off date should be used. --Commander Zulu 13:45, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your input, folks. With all that has been recently added to give this wiki entry an international flavor, can we now safely drop the "Template:Globalize/USA" flag? OBTW, I would greatly apprecaite input from readers in other countries that have large numbers of antique gun collectors, such as Belgium, Finland, France, The Netherlands, New Zealand, South Africa, Sweden, and Switzerland. Re-write[edit]

I've embarked on a re-write of the article, as there's some great information in there, but it's not presented especially clearly IMHO. Also, the article was in danger of becoming "List of 19th Century Gunmakers" and "Antique Arms Regulations"... this is an important topic, and deserves a thorough, engaging, and top-shelf article, as I'm sure you'll all agree! --Commander Zulu 08:47, 4 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

...I hate to sound excessively pedantic, but does the expression "...to paraphrase fascination with history..." actually mean anything...? "fixed ammunition"?[edit]

Currently says: "Modern replicas of firearms that can fire fixed ammunition, however...", but its not clear what that means.

I suspect it should instead read: "Modern replicas of firearms that can fire rimfire or centerfire cartridges...". Thoughts? - Snori (talk) 02:19, 18 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

home defence[edit]

Reverting and re-reverting[edit]

The text "A lot of antique firearms are very collectible because they are wall guns will never be used again" was added at the end of the lead section a couple of weeks ago. I reverted it as a personal reflexion with poor syntax (there's no source nor anything corresponding to it in the article below). I also have some trouble with the logic: how are they collectible because they are wall guns? Is that really a causal connection? Anyway, I have today been reverted in turn, by the new user who originally added it, no reason given. Any thoughts? Perhaps it can be incorporated in a different form.
