Anton Philips was not the co-founder of the Philips Company[edit]

The Philips Company was co-founded by his father Frederik and brother Gerard Philips in 1891.

In the reference article * Anton Philips (1874-1951) (in Dutch) that is placed below the Wikipedia article you can find in the Dutch text "Samen met zijn broer Gerard heeft Anton Philips ‘de basis gelegd voor een multinational <...> The translation is "Together with Gerard, his brother, Anton Philips laid the base for a multinational <...> This doesn't mean that Anton founded the Philips Company together with his brother. Further in the same article is written "Al in 1891 ging de firma Philips & Co. van start, geleid door Gerard Philips en vader Frederik, maar nog zonder de toen zeventienjarige Anton." The translation is "Already in 1891 the firm Philips & Co started, lead by Gerard Philips and father Frederik but still without the 17 years old Anton."

Still minor, Anton was in 1891 by law not able to found a company. Requested by his father Anton began his carriere in the family company, owned by his father and brother Gerard, in 1895. First having a trail period for a half year and after that permanently. Anton became a firm member on 1 april 1899. After that Anton and Gerard laid the base to make from the family company a multinational

Further in the text comes the source of the misunderstanding. The Dutch text is telling that due the bussiness genius of Anton the family company began to grow very fast since 1895. In Dutch is written; "Die uitbreiding resulteerde in de oprichting van de N.V. Philips’ Gloeilampenfabrieken in 1912", Translated into English "The fast expansion of the family company resulted into the foundation of the "N.V. Philips Light-bulb Factories" in 1912. It is important is to understand were the letters N.V. stand for. It stand for the Dutch notion "Naamloze Vennootschap" meaning "Nameless Partnership" and that stand for being an Incorporation.

In 1912 the Philips Company was changed from a family bussiness into the Philips Incorporation led by Gerard and Anton Philips. Thus the Philips Incorporation was founded by Anton and Gerard Philips in 1912 twenty one years after Gerard and this father Frederik founded the Philips company as a family concern.--145.53.144.81 (talk) 15:39, 8 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
