Screenshots[edit]

As suggested, I've added a selection of screenshots which should be illustrative. I shouldn't think the non-standard but sensible icons will confuse, but feel free to replace with vanilla versions if that adds something other than retro-uglification. Also bumped importance up to "mid" as there's nothing "optional" about AppDirs in RISC OS! :-) nemo (talk) 13:48, 21 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

$.!Boot[edit]

The RISC OS system directory and its structure needs a page of its own really. nemo 10:38, 8 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

no Not necessarily. I think this article can cover the aspects of different implementations of this feature, perhaps with each OS/implementation under its own heading. Wikipedia users could then easily compare and contrast them. I don't think that compartmentalising knowledge is helpful if the objective is learning. --trevj (talk) 14:41, 15 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The problem of storing and organising operating system files is a different problem from that of distributing and installing application files. The method that has evolved in RISC OS is quite different from those employed in Windows or Unix based OSes, and there is much to compare and contrast. The link with betwinner app "application directory" is somewhat superficial – it would be like arguing that a description of the contents and organisation of the WINDOWS directory should be listed under Folder. nemo (talk) 09:35, 3 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed. I Don’t think String dot pling boot would work so well! X-D nemo (talk) 13:04, 21 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

ROX PoV[edit]

Is there going to be any body text added to this page about the ROX implementation of this concept? At the moment this is a page that in theory about a generic OS concept but the discussion is entirely about the specifics of one implementation.--Flibble (talk) 11:35, 25 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Actually ignore me, my brains are having a bad day.--Flibble (talk) 11:37, 25 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
