I believe that there is an area of performance management that is missing. Application Performance Management describes the monitoring of applications. Meanwhile there is Network monitoring and Website monitoring, and then Systems management refers to enterprise-wide administration of distributed computer systems. The problem -- there is nothing that talks about monitoring both applications as well as the associated servers (hardware and software) and operating systems -- e.g. the infrastructure. The Network monitoring and Website monitoring are just special cases of this (infrastructure monitoring), but are not specific to performance. And while Performance management references APM, it doesn't reference infrastructure monitoring in general. So it appears that there is a missing, higher level page here. I will have to think about this and see if these disparate pages cannot somehow be placed into a framework. -- SunSw0rd 21:29, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That entire section was deleted October 8 with edit summary "rm adverts & linkspam, see WP:EL; rm list, see WP:NOTDIRECTORY". Please review the material at those links. I reverted the link you added today mainly because of WP:EL, but please also review the reasons outlined in WP:EL#Links normally to be avoided, #11, "Links to blogs and personal web pages, except those written by a recognized authority (this exception is meant to be very limited; as a minimum standard, recognized authorities always meet Wikipedia's notability criteria for biographies)." --CliffC (talk) 18:33, 14 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This article should be renamed to Application performance monitoring[edit]

APM may stand for either Application performance monitoring or Application performance management. While this article covers monitoring solutions and ideas, it should be renamed accordingly. When talking about performance management it should cover ALL performance related aspects, while monitoring is just one of them.

Application performance management covers the application lifecycle, from Application design, where performance SLAs should be detailed, during development of application where measuring and profiling the code should take place to meet the performance SLAs, during testing and QA - load testing to meet performance SLAs under load and only later, the monitoring part which this article describes. The last part of performance management is a way of moving back a performance incident from production to developers/administrators to fix and recover the bad performance. 79.177.34.208 (talk) 06:03, 8 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Merger proposal[edit]

I propose that the article "Application Performance Assessment" be merged into Application performance management. I think that the content in the Application Performance Assessment article can easily be explained in the context of Application performance management, and the Application performance management article is of a reasonable size that the merging of Application Performance Assessment will not cause any problems as far as article size or undue weight is concerned. Comment I don't see an application performance assessment (APA) being a technology as the article infers. Everyone will have a different approach in doing an application performance assessment. I recommend deleting this article entirely. It appears the APA article was created back in February for Wolfe Technologies to help sell their solution after Ecwolfe81 comments were removed from the APM page for commercial selling. system resource vs computational resource[edit]

Somewhere the text mentions "The second set of performance metrics measures the computational resources used by the application". Need to add a section differentiating application performance monitoring and application performance management[edit]

While monitoring and management are closely related and most of the APM vendors provide a combination of both, a section is needed to be added to differentiate what constitutes monitoring and what constitutes management.
