Editing Central European families[edit]
Is there general guidance on how to refer to given names in a case such as the Apponyi family? Hungarian forms appear generally apt but arguably anachronistic from Josephinism to the Compromise of 1867, a period during which German was dominant. Boubloub (talk) 16:25, 28 December 2019 (UTC)
- I don't know or think there is, but it does not satisfy you that now everywhere in the main titles they are added? They are not anachronistic since any German version is just a written form, likewise Latin before or after. However, even during Josephinism, the Baptism and Church papers used Latin, as before and after isn't it? There only Latin forms of given name were recorded, but it does not mean that this or any earlier period we ignore the used, common name of any European person. As the Rezső/Rudolf case, if you think by another person somebody is so-so much better referred only in German, you may substitute it.(KIENGIR (talk) 22:04, 30 December 2019 (UTC))
