Resin/Rosin[edit]

Someone changed resin to rosin and I reverted it. But now I'm wondering whether rosin is correct, or if it is too specific. Does anyone know if other types of resin are used for aquatint, or is it always rosin? MANdARAX • XAЯAbИAM 20:37, 21 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Is this proper grammar or could you explaine further what this means. "powdered resin which is acid resistant in the 'ground' to create a tonal effect"

This is a run on sentence "Another tonal technique, mezzotint, begins with a plate surface that is evenly indented so that it will carry a fairly dark tone of ink, then smoothing areas to make them carry less ink and thus print a lighter shade; or, beginning with a smooth plate, areas are roughened to make them darker; or, these two techniques may be combined." Rosin refers to the refined material while resin is the raw material. Aquatint rosin is typically refined for it's specific melting point, so it is in fact a rosin. However conventional nomenclature uses the two interchangeably (probably due to the fact that rosin is a type of resin, and that the two materials are so close in name).

Introduction[edit]

It seems to me that something about the method, like "powdered resist" or "rosin particles", should be near the top. David R. Ingham 16:34, 23 September 2019 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by David Ransford Ingham (talkcontribs)
