Voting Confusion

Does anyone know how it is that, if there are 22 countries that have ever been members, and Libya withdrew in October 2002, there was a 21-1 vote in March 2003? Did Libya not withdraw immediately but after a period of time (at least 6 months) from the announcement, or did they rejoin, or what? -- John Owens 00:34 Apr 4, 2003 (UTC)

Yes, it seems like this could use some updating. Does anyone knwo the actual status of Libya as it stands? If they rejoined, why? And shouldn't that be added to the timeline? —thames 18:32, 15 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Amr Moussa is working hard to change the voting system from unanimous to majority. I will keep my eye on that and tell you(or edit the article). Eventually, this might improve the current role of the league.-- Mostafa Hussein

Libya

I don't understand why on the map, Lybia is not considered as an arab country? 500LL 22:05, 7 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I think the issue is if Libya, as a state, is a current member of the Arab League of not. As a nation they are Arabs.

For the last time people. Libya is an arab nation. Twice it has threatened to leave the Arab League in protest. The first time it made the announcement on the 24th of October 2002 and it would have been effective one year later (i.e. the 24th of October 2003) but this decision was cancelled on the 16th of January 2003. The second time Libya threatened with withdrawl was on the 3rd of April 2003, but again was cancelled. This time it was cancelled on the 25th of May again before the one year deadline. Got that good.

The graphic in the "literacy in Arab League countries" section is contradictory to the table and one of them should be changed Rudolf Johnson (talk) 01:04, 15 September 2021 (UTC)

Sorry about the vagueness of my original request, I am requesting for three things to be changed: 1) for the table in the "literacy in the Arab world" section to be updated using current CIA factbook data found at https://www.cia.gov/the-world-factbook/field/literacy/ 2) for source 44 to be updated to the same link as the link currently being used was retrieved in 2014 and is broken and 3) for the graphic in the section (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Arab_literacy_rate_(2010).svg) to be removed/replaced as the data it uses is from 2010 and contradictory to current data (for example the current CIA factbook estimate for Moroccan literacy is 73.8% but the graphic puts it between 50 and 60%[the table is also wrong here as it puts the rate at 68.5%]) Rudolf Johnson (talk) 05:06, 19 September 2021 (UTC)
Partly done: I removed the image, as it was out of date. If you'd like to provide a new table with the updated numbers feel free to re-open the request. I'm closing the request for now, as it's not for requesting that someone go through a source and create or update an entire table, it's to request that someone make an edit on your behalf, that you've already done the leg work on. Add Greece to observer Status in the league, their cooperation treaty effectively established it a few months ago. https://gr.euronews.com/2021/07/15/arabikos-syndesmos-mnimonio-me-ellafda https://greekcitytimes.com/2021/07/12/greece-observer-arab-league/ Cedesamos (talk) 12:31, 29 September 2021 (UTC)

Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made. Your first source does not mention them becoming an observer, the second source has been found to be generally unreliable at WP:RSP. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 12:44, 29 September 2021 (UTC)

Infobox map: Western Sahara

The map showing the member states in the infobox shows the Western Sahara as an integral part of Morocco. It's the only map I've seen on Wikipedia that does this; compare for example the maps at Africa, African Union, or Mahgreb. As the Moroccan claim is mostly not internationally recognised, it should not be shown on this map, just like on other maps, unless there's a particularly good reason for this map to be different, but I can't think of any. Lennart97 (talk) 09:20, 16 November 2021 (UTC)

You're right. Western Sahara should either be gray or shown with diagonal green/gray lines to indicate Moroccan claim and control. — curiousGolden call me maybe? 18:22, 18 November 2021 (UTC)

Map again

Per Talk:Arab League/Archive 1#Infobox map: Western Sahara, I've replaced the infobox map with a previous version which conforms to our usual standards for Western Sahara. Downsides of this version are that 1. Syria (suspended member state) is less distinctively coloured and 2. the map centers on Central Africa instead of the Middle East. But until someone makes a new map, this one should stay. Lennart97 (talk) 09:02, 23 December 2021 (UTC)

Adding Greece as an Arab League Observer

Hello! According to this wikipedia article https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Member_states_of_the_Arab_League Greece is an observer in the Arab league, yet Greece is missing from the Arab League wiki article as an observer. SwterMwter (talk) 10:45, 26 February 2022 (UTC)

1990 summit in Baghdad, Iraq

The 1990 summit in Baghdad, Iraq was on the 28-30th May, not March as the article says on the list of Arab summits. RamHez (talk) 22:20, 23 February 2023 (UTC)

Historic flags at summits

The Sudan flag at the 1967 summit should be the old Sudanese flag to be consistent with the other countries, as they only changed to the current flag in 1970. The Mauritanian flag at the 2016 summit is also incorrect, because the red bars were only added to the flag in 2017. TornadooTim (talk) 19:13, 21 April 2023 (UTC)
