Which ones are called as such[edit]

@Srnec: I found your remark interesting (I have removed your CN tag so that the page does not get cluttered).

At least one persone, me, thinks about all those when thinking about the expression "Arab empire". And another person thinks about the Ayyubid dynasty.

Those were empire which had an Arab cultural identity, or are either commonly thought to be Arab or refered as Arab. This is why I included them. Veverve (talk) 19:58, 19 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

What you and the creators of Civilization VI think is irrelevant. The Ayyubids were Kurds. From Abbasid Revolution: The revolution essentially marked the end of the Arab Empire and the beginning of a more inclusive, multiethnic state in the Middle East. What reason to call either of these Arab empires? Srnec (talk) 20:04, 19 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I am not saying I or others who think as such are right or have good reasons; and I am not saying those empires were necessarily Arab. I say it is a common misconception to call them "Arab" and that therefore they are worth including in this DAB. Those inclusions are relevant in that sense: to guide the reader who is a layman in those topics.
As for the Abbasid, "[t]he Abbasids were an Arabic dynasty" ([1]); so maybe the Abbassids are worthy of being listed here for factual, objective reasons (and not common misconceptions). Veverve (talk) 20:16, 19 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
But nobody has to take your word for it that it is a common misconception. Guiding the reader in this way may foster misconceptions. Srnec (talk) 20:34, 19 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You are right. I will ask the Teahouse or the Reference desk tomorrow if others share my misconceptions. Veverve (talk) 22:23, 19 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
For the records, the discussion is at Wikipedia:Reference desk/Humanities#What do YOU call "Arab empire"?. Veverve (talk) 16:12, 20 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
