Recall[edit]

I put the press release and statements of Arc and McDonalds in here to balance out the CPSC statements about the potentially toxic cadmium levels. If that's too unbalanced, somebody can kill off that paragraph.

ARC or Arc?[edit]

It appears to me that by WP standards, the company name--and the article title--should be spelled Arc International, rather than ARC International. In general, WP avoids unnecessary capitalizations, and the company's own documents use "Arc International" sometimes, including their July 2007 Corporate press file, and the president's message on their French and English websites. The fact that they usually use all caps might mean that the all-caps spelling is merely a marketing style rather than an essential part of the name. This does not override WP's style guidelines (e.g., MOS:TM). I see this as being in substantial contrast to the name of the ARC International microprocessor company, for which "ARC" originated as an acronym. Changing this article to "Arc" would further help to distinguish the two company--and article--names. --Rich Janis (talk) 07:33, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds fine to me. Can a better qualifier than (household) if it's going to be moved? Perhaps (glass manufacturer)? Though it does make a variety of goods, glass seems to be its main product. WLU (talk) 11:06, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Their webwsite header & Corporate press file both promote them as "world leader in tableware". How about "Arc International (tableware)"? OTOH, I've never created or changed the name of an article, so I wonder: Would the change to "Arc International" mean that it would no longer need anything in parentheses to distinguish it from the microprocessor company? --Rich Janis (talk) 20:15, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The relevant page is WP:MOVE if you're looking for it - pretty easy to do and good experience. Arc international, ARC international, ARC international and Arc International are all redlinks, but if typed in they all link to the same page thanks to recent software updates (I think, it used to be case specific). Be sure to fix the redirects too! Tableware is OK, maybe a bit clunky, if you're looking for more guidance, check out WP:NAME. WLU (talk) 00:51, 15 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks; your suggestions were very helpful, and the effort was instructive. Based on WP:NAME's advice about minimum ambiguity, I kept parens. The "What links here" list didn't show any redirects before the move. I changed the links to this article in ARC International, Luminarc, Toughened glass, & Template:List of glass companies. --Rich Janis (talk) 09:12, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Luminarc[edit]

Currently, the article about the Luminarc brand has more info about the Arc International company than this article does. Also, since this article is so new, some other articles (e.g., Lead crystal) that mention Arc International link it to the Luminarc article instead of this one. Someone familiar w/ this topic might want to work on reversing this situation. --Rich Janis (talk) 09:36, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed, a merge might be in order. I'll add the tags. WLU (talk) 13:37, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
