Disputed location of the original[edit]

Visiting Abbott Hall last summer I was invited to see what was claimed to be the original painting of the Spirit of '76 which hangs in a chamber across from the town clerk's office. When I said that I had seen the Willard painting in Washington Courthouse, the Marblehead people seemed shocked that another one exists, and those working in the building today believe this version in their building to be the original, as do the people of Washington Courthouse Ohio for their version. So which version is the documented original? 75.180.35.42 (talk) 15:49, 13 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

He chose to do a serious patriotic painting instead of a humorous one at the suggestion of his wife[edit]
