History of telephony[edit]

I moved this section here from the Los Gatos page. I'm not sure it belongs in Wikipedia at all, but it seems better here than in a city page. --Steve Pucci | talk 18:57, 26 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Was there permissive dialing, 408 vs 415, or not?[edit]

The article contradicts itself on this point, saying "no" in the introduction, "yes" later inside the San Jose section. --66.92.17.35 14:49, 25 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please define flash-cut[edit]

The term flash-cut, used in the lead, should be defined. Finell (Talk) 19:55, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Would be nice to know what counties -are- in 408. 99.50.58.189 (talk) 03:57, 24 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Verizon[edit]

The article talks about Verizon is the mid-1980's. Verizon as a company was not formed till 2000, before which the pre-merger company was Bell Atlantic. There are no citations in that section. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.131.62.145 (talk) 18:36, 25 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Cultural Significance[edit]

I think it should be noted that the song 867-5309/Jenny was based on a phone number in Santa Cruz, which was in the 408 area code at the time. ~4tiddles — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.4.155.39 (talk) 10:43, 28 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I never heard that, and it sounds dubious to me. Even if true, it does not belong in this article. "408" is not used in the song, and it imparts no information about the 408 area code. TJRC (talk) 20:52, 29 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Santa Cruz County?[edit]

Pages for both Santa Cruz County, CA and the area code 831 seem to indicate that 408 no longer goes into any part of SCZ County, and 831, as is logical to me because of media market, covers SCZ County, San Benito County, and Santa Cruz County solely and in full. I'd go through that list of communities served, but don't have time right now. Based on what I've seen of other area code pages, maybe a vertical, and linked (wherever possible) list of counties and the communities within them is appropriate. I'll look into this in the coming days. I think that might make this article more legible. YellowAries2010 (talk) 07:50, 7 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
