There IS an article for Arthur V. Watkins, who is the same guy as Arthur Vivian Watkins.

Who was Watkins' predecessor in the Senate, and how do we get that handy box that lists predecessors and successors? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Edarrell (talk • contribs).

I had spent some time here earlier, checking the facts on a much longer article that linked to several already in Wikipedia. It strikes me as patently bizarre that the article on the dam and lake named after the man is longer than the article on the man himself, who honorably and nobly chaired the committee that disciplined Sen. Joe McCarthy.

As a part-time historian with a real job, I wonder whether it's worthwhile to work here when someone appears to have a bias against this guy and his biography, or some process wipes out the work. Edarrell (talk) 01:39, 9 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the statement: "...in order to allow them to have the rights of citizens of the United States." as it is a debatable statement not entirely based in fact. It makes the entry non-encyclopedic. Joshuah Hounshell (talk) 15:45, 23 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Joshua, while that makes this too short article shorter, that shouldn't be the goal. The one reference left makes reference to the purposes of Watkins and others in legislating an end to tribal status at that time. The purpose may have been phrased a bit awkwardly, but the purpose of the legislation isn't really debatable.

It's difficult not to suspect an organized effort to erase Watkins from the history books. Why? Because he led the censure of Joe McCarthy? That doesn't even deserve a mention here, though it's noted in many places?

Restoring the article[edit]

The wholesale deletion of the article was uncalled for. Much of what was removed was blue-linked and cited elsewhere on WP. Those citations should be found (they are already on WP) and copied to this article.

Further, the text (as restored) has some material that looks like opinion and probably can't be sourced... those items should be pruned. Jd2718 (talk) 12:25, 30 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Common name[edit]

Regarding the move of this page, Arthur V. Watkins (62%) and Arthur Watkins (35%) are the only iterations of Watkins's name that constitute over 5% of references to him on newspapers.com from 1940 to 1975. Star Garnet (talk) 05:50, 16 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
