and euro-trance should be removed.83.87.230.126 (talk) 12:59, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
The band have themselves stated in interviews that the electronic music they implement is euro-trance and it should therefore not be removed. I am positive to adding electronic hardcore in addition to euro-trance however. Petternitter (talk) 21:55, 1 September 2010 (UTC).
Does anyone know why post-hardcore was removed as a genre? I reckon it should be considered to be added again. This band clearly implements newer post-hardcore in their music. Petternitter (talk) 21:58, 1 September 2010 (UTC).
I met the group and speant a whole day with them, they constantly refered to AA as a metal band or a "breakdown metal band". • GunMetal Angel 07:04, 30 October 2010 (UTC)
Genres should not be determined this way. You can't cite "speant a whole day with them" as a source. You can quote last.fm, however, and their genre tagging system. Top 5 genres for Asking Alexandria are post-hardcore, metalcore, screamo, electronic, & hardcore. Robo042 (talk) 04:56, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

I wasn't determining anything; it's just showing what they're influenced by (metal). Plus if you want your source; go read AP; even they're marketing them as a metalcore group. • GunMetal Angel 07:27, 10 February 2011 (UTC)

The way a band's genre should be determined here is through publications that state they are of that genre. However, they should be major, well known publications, and if possible, should be checked against other publications for both confirmation or to determine if they are infrequently labeled as whatever. If a band is infrequently labeled as "post-hardcore," "metalcore," "whatever genre" in publications, that genre should not be attributed to a band. As always, what a band calls themselves does not matter. Metallica could call themselves "post-mullet skank thrash," but that would not warrant that genre being listed on their page. 166.249.196.62 (talk) 01:24, 21 June 2011 (UTC)

Technical/progressive metal?

I feel they show some elements. Anyone else agree? Some of their breakdowns are in the style of Born Of Osiris and Veil Of Maya. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.220.247.226 (talk) 23:52, 23 September 2010 (UTC)

Well a lot of bands sound progressive at different times while not even being listed as progressive. As for the breakdowns, they sound kind of crafty akin to that of Born of Osiris. If you wanna hear even more technical breakdowns, look up a band named Did You Mean Austalia?. • GunMetal Angel 07:09, 30 October 2010 (UTC)

Similarly-named upcoming 2011 album

Finnish metal band, Children of Bodom's 2011 full-length is going to be titled Relentless Reckless Forever, while Asking Alexandria's 2011 album is going to be titled Reckless and Relentless. We may need a distinction between these two articles when they are made. GunMetal Angel 19:22, 24 November 2010 (UTC)

Genres

I feel that the specific generes listed for this band should have reliable sources and not be based on the opinion of some random fan. I find last.fm to be an excellent source this kind of thing. The top 5 genre last.fm tags for Asking Alexandria are post-hardcore, metalcore, screamo, electronic, and hardcore. I vote that the genres be listed as such. Robo042 (talk) 04:40, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

I think this should be added to the article.

I think this should be added to the article, because it's a part of their biography. I tried to add it few times, but it got deleted. Anyways, this is what I'm talking about:

Amongst Us and End of Reason (2003–2007)

Asking Alexandria have their roots in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, where guitarist Ben Bruce started a band under the name Amongst Us. Formed in the fall of 2003, Amongst Us fused both melodic and hardcore vocals with heavier and more hardcore musical elements. Just as the band started to mature, some members were soon to leave Dubai and changes were in order. Bruce stated in an interview with Gulf News that "it was ridiculously hard to keep the band going because people come and go in Dubai". With new members and material, a decision was made to change their name, settling on End of Reason, stylised as EndofReason. It has been explained that the name was born whilst endlessly trying to find a name with reason and meaning without any success. Sometime after changing to the new name, the band put out a self-released EP entitled Tomorrow.Hope.Goodbye. In its aftermath, the band started to gain national as well as some international success, resulting in record deals with Sonicwave International in the United States and Hangmans Joke Recordings in the United Kingdom. It also contributed to opening slots for bands such as Boy Sets Fire, Pennywise and Jimmy Eat World, amongst others. Whilst slowly increasing in popularity and recognition, the band decided in 2007 to yet again change their name, this time to Asking Alexandria. This decision was made due to the band sharing the name EndofReason with other bands. On June 25, 2007, Asking Alexandria released their first full length album entitled The Irony of Your Perfection through Hangmans Joke Recordings. Following the release was a nine-month United Kingdom tour, as well as shows in Germany, Holland, France and Sweden. Bruce has in an interview at later date that the band known as Asking Alexandria from Dubai only had the name for about a month before breaking up, hence the band never went on this tour. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.138.207.68 (talk) 11:38, 30 March 2011 (UTC)

History Inception and Stand Up and Scream (2008–2009)

Asking Alexandria have their roots in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, wherein guitarist Ben Bruce started a band and released one full-length album (titled The Irony of Your Perfection) with the group under the name Asking Alexandria. The band shortly afterwards broke-up and Bruce made a statement at a later date that the band known as Asking Alexandria from Dubai only had the name for about a month before leading to their disbandment, hence the band never embarked on a tour.

In 2008, Bruce moved back to the UK, leaving behind his former bandmates. However, Bruce had no plans on putting his musical career on hold and not long after the move he started fresh with new members, though deciding to carry on the name Asking Alexandria. Bruce has stated that he was the one that created this title, that he still liked it and the meaning/reason behind the name still remained, and therefore decided to continue it in the new project.[2] He also made an emphasised statement in the same blog post that the current Asking Alexandria is not the same band that wrote The Irony of Your Perfection, in style nor members,[2] hence they are two different bands, despite their links. The same statement has been emphasised in interviews and is known to still be a confusion to many fans.

Asking Alexandria, since their formation in 2008, has had some member changes, including going from a six-piece to a five-piece, with the departure of synthesist Ryan Binns.[3] The last known change was bassist Sam Bettley, who replaced Joe Lancaster in January 2009.[4] Lancaster played his final show at Fibbers in their hometown York on 4 January.[5] The band left for the United States the day after the show to promote their music through shows, as well as to prepare for the recording of their debut album.

After spending 2008 and the first months of 2009 touring, the band recorded their debut studio album between 19 May and 16 June 2009 at The Foundation Recording Studios in Connersville, Indiana, United States with producer Joey Sturgis.[6] They announced their signing with Sumerian Records shortly after finishing the recording and released their debut album, Stand Up and Scream, on 15 September 2009 through their new label. The band spent 2009 focusing on gaining success in the United States, touring with well known bands such as Alesana, Enter Shikari, The Bled and Evergreen Terrace, amongst others. Reckless & Relentless (2010–2011)

On 22 December 2009, Asking Alexandria announced that they were to start the works on a second album in January. They informed that they were to be streaming parts of the writing process through a web cam feed via the service Stickam. It was also announced that they will be entering the studio on 1 September, again with producer Joey Sturgis. Then they later announced that they will be able to get into the studio 22 June 2010 on their official twitter. The band has later confirmed through an interview with Shred News that the album is scheduled for release in early 2011 and is planned to contain 12 new songs.[7] In the same interview, the band informed that a title was not yet established. In a later interview they stated that the album will probably be able to pre order in November 2010, and available in early 2011. One song, "Breathless" has been played live already and can be found on YouTube. Danny has also released lyrics from the new album onto his Twitter account, although he did not state what songs they were from.

In March, Asking Alexandria are heading out on their first tour of the new year, yet again making their way through North America, this time with Attack Attack!, Breathe Carolina, label mates I See Stars, and the up-and-coming British metalcore act Bury Tomorrow. The tour carries through to April, ending ten days before heading off for their debut European tour with Dance Gavin Dance and In Fear and Faith, which includes an appearance at the annual Groezrock festival. They are however scheduled to discontinue the European tour two days before it originally ends to make an appearance at The Bamboozle festival in New Jersey.

Asking Alexandria announced their first ever headlining tour on 2 March 2010, taking place in North America through May to the start of June. We Came as Romans, From First to Last, Our Last Night and A Bullet for Pretty Boy were announced as supporting bands for the tour. Bruce has also confirmed through an interview with Inside Heavy that the band will be making an appearance at the Thrash and Burn summer festival tour as a main support act, though not revealing details on which other bands that will be participating.[8] It was later revealed that Asking Alexandria would co-headline the Thrash and Burn Tour 2010 alongside Born of Osiris.

Asking Alexandria has since then embarked on The Thrash and Burn Tour performed a new song entitled "Breathless", which is featured on their then upcoming second studio album Reckless & Relentless.[9] The band as well recorded a cover of "Right Now (Na Na Na)" by Akon[10] which was released on Punk Goes Pop 3 in November 2010.

During a show in Las Cruces, New Mexico, on the Short But Sweet Tour that took place in early October,[11] Asking Alexandria was asked about the release of their upcoming album and future music videos. Bruce responded with great detail about their plans. Reckless & Relentless will be available for pre-order in December and will be released in February. He also stated that in November 2010 they will be releasing a reissue of Stand Up and Scream, the reissue album is said to contain more of a "dubstep feel" to the content. Bruce also mentioned that it will contain a bonus DVD that will have a live music video of "If You Can't Ride Two Horses at Once... Then You Should Get Out of the Circus." They are also preparing a music video for "A Prophecy" that will be included on the bonus DVD if finished in time.

On 23 November 2010, Asking Alexandria added a new EP entitled Life Gone Wild for pre-order, set to be released on 21 December 2010.[12] The EP contained the new song "Breathless", dubstep remixes of "A Single Moment of Sincerity" and "Not the American Average," two Skid Row covers of "18 and Life" and "Youth Gone Wild", and an unreleased demo version of "I Was Once, Possibly, Maybe, Perhaps a Cowboy King".

It has been announced that the reissue album of Stand Up and Scream, that was originally supposed to be released on 16 November then 21 December then 22 March has been pushed back to sometime in the summer of 2011 and will be titled Stepped Up and Scratched. It will be a completely remixed electro/dubstep version of their debut album including all the songs, new artwork, and new packaging. It has been announced at most UK tour shows in December that support for the UK April shows will come from Of Mice & Men and Chelsea Grin.[13]

On 5 April 2011, Reckless & Relentless was released as planned. On 11 April 2011, the band made their national TV debut, while performing the songs "Someone, Somewhere", and "Closure" on Jimmy Kimmel Live!.[14]

On 5 July 2011, the band released the music video for "Closure", the first single off Reckless & Relentless, directed by Thunder Down Country.[15] On 15 July 2011, the band released a music video for the second single "To the Stage", directed by Frankie Nasso.[16] On 4 September 2011, vocalist Danny Worsnop has announced in a video on his personal YouTube channel that he will be recording a solo album in the near future, with the album being more of a rock record, rather than Asking Alexandria's heavy metal style. He released a preview of a new solo song he recorded, entitled "Photograph."[17] Asking Alexandria released the music video for Not The American Average on VIA Facebook on 10/17/11 which was a song on their debut album Stand Up And Scream. On 17 November 2011, the band was selected as sole direct support to Guns N' Roses at the Izod Center.

The band also announced on their Facebook on 22 December 2011 that they are shooting a prequel video to their song "To the Stage" the music video will be for their song "Reckless & Relentless". They also announced the sequel to the video will be for the song "Dear Insanity". Both are currently in post-production. Fans can go to the Sumerian Records Facebook wall and tell them which video they would prefer the band release first.[18] Short film and new album (2012-present)

Asking Alexandria is currently writing material for a third album, which is scheduled to be released in September 2012. Revolver Magazine has included the album on their list of the Most Anticipated Albums of 2012. Commenting on the sound of the album, Worsnop has said it is "a musical baby of Mötley Crüe and Slipknot."[19]

On 1 May 2012, Asking Alexandria released a trailer for a new "shocking" short film entitled, Through Sin + Self Destruction. The release date was set for 15 May. The film promises a "controversial, uncensored look into the real lives of a new era of rockstars for today's generation".[20] The film contains a trilogy of three music videos from the band's second album, Reckless and Relentless. The songs are Reckless and Relentless, To the Stage, and Dear Insanity. The film is available now exclusively on iTunes.

On August 13th 2012, Asking Alexandria announced on their Facebook page that a new single entitled "Run Free" was available for free download through a promotion with Axe.[21] Band members

I need to build up on this article further, until then I'm not going to research what genre is best suited in the infobox, if you want these genres added however you could build up a list of reliable resources backing up these genres, then they can be added. Apostrophe missing in the line - "Ben Bruce, the bands current lead guitarist and backing vocalist..." Please change "bands" to "band's", as it should have an apostrophe to show possession. Thanks! Pedrozzer (talk) 19:52, 12 November 2014 (UTC)

Request aid for Ben Bruce article

The article for Ben Bruce has an issue that has continued since its creation, that being his official birth year. While many editors believe he was born in 1988, I collected references that, when calculated, show that he was born in 1991 instead. Despite this editors continue to edit in 1988, which in all honesty, I also believe is the correct year, however without resorting to primary sources such as this: [2] it has not been possible, forcing me to undo these edits as they do not discuss or reference this change. If anyone can find or knows of a reliable secondary source that can be used for the article, that would be grand! SilentDan (talk) 00:16, 14 December 2014 (UTC)

Fixing up musical style and influences

This is a collection of reliable sources that back-up each genre and influence, if you find a reliable source that supports any of these genres + more and any musical influences please add them here. Once a substantial amount has been collected they will be moved to the article in prose under the Musical style and influences section.

Musical Style
The band have frequently been categorised under the metalcore genre but have also been labelled under the heavy metal and rock genres. Their debut and secondary albums Stand Up and Scream and Reckless and Relentless are both considered to be metalcore albums, while their their album, the last one to feature singer Danny Worsnop, contains influences of heavy metal and rock from bands such as ... while maintaining their signature metalcore sound on certain tracks. Ben Bruce has expressed that they do not like creating music that sounds the same from album to album, hence why their musical style varies from album to album.[2][3][4][5]

Lyrical style

According the Ben Bruce, the lyrical style before their second studio album Reckless and Relentless was stupid, Ben Bruce explains that before that album they simply yelled out lyrics like "fuck" and "you stupid fucking whore", and further explained that they wanted to move away from that to a more mature style with more meaning.[6] Bruce has expressed that the third album, From Death to Destiny, is the most mature album they have written lyrically, as they no longer talk about drugs and women, stating that since they had little experience before the recording of their previous albums they wrote lyrics that are immature in comparison and that From Death to Destiny is much more meaningful.[7] Danny Worsnop has explained that the lyrics are never written before entering the studio and that they are improvised during the recording of the album itself.[8]

Influences

All of the members have expressed their passion of 80s rock music, even going as far to demonstrate it in their music, such as their Life Gone Wild EP where they cover two Skid Row songs, their Under the Influence: A Tribute to the Legends of Hard Rock EP which yet again features covers from bands such as Journey, Mötley Crüe, White snake and Def Leppard, and their third studio album From Death to Destiny features a much heavier influence from said genre.[9][10][11] Common favourites from the bands consist of Guns N' Roses, Metallica, Mötley Crüe, Sebastian Bach, Skid Row and Van Halen however they also take influences from modern bands such as Slipknot and Avenged Sevenfold.[12][13][14][15][16]

Discussion

I'm just using this section as a means to build up the Musical style and influences section of this article, as a means to expand it and clean it up, contribute if you can! SilentDan (talk) 02:39, 9 March 2015 (UTC)

Metal and heavy metal are considered to mean the exact same thing on WP, and therefore metal isn't more generic. I'll add sources to the list if I come across any, but just to note, I don't think the sources listed here would justify adding rock as the band's genre if that's something you intend to do.--MASHAUNIX 18:52, 9 March 2015 (UTC)
What ever genres the most references should really be in the infobox since they are what represent the band best according to the majority, but most of these will be used in the Musical style and influences section. The reason I use just Metal is because that can also refer to metalcore and such, where as heavy metal sorta refers to the likes of Black Sabbath and Metallica, just made sense in my head, change it back if you want to, and thank you for your contributions! Is Denis out?

Been reluctant to add this to the article and switch the members from Danny being back because it's not entirely certain, but apparently Shaforostov is out of the band according to much sources and original vocalist Danny Worsnop has returned, although the band themselves nor Sumerian have said nothing of it yet.[18][19] Second Skin (talk) 22:27, 20 October 2016 (UTC)

Dennis is officially out as of October 21 Derekg559 (talk) 15:56, 27 October 2016 (UTC)

Asking Alexandria are not Screamo

All the other genres of music are correct execept for screamo. They music isvery different from the actual genre of screamo please take that genre out. Tcswizle (talk) 19:15, 29 August 2017 (UTC)

Can you edit the genre from "rock" band to "heavy metal" band? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 161.18.52.87 (talk) 19:19, 8 October 2017 (UTC)

Screamo

I think Screamo should be removed due to the rampant misuse of the term and Asking Alexandria not reflecting Screamo. The other genres are fine but Screamo is incorrect. Dekai Averett (talk) 01:38, 26 October 2017 (UTC)
