Additional work[edit]

Some suggestions for later work on the article:

  • A. septentrionale forms a number of hybrids; the origin of these hybrids should be documented from original publications.
  • Someone with access to Fraser-Jenkins' revision of Indian pteridophytes needs to take a look and make sure his changes to the classification are as I've inferred.
  • There are two papers by Holderegger & Schneller on genetic variability in small, isolated populations of this species in Switzerland that may be of interest:
    • Holderegger, Rolf; Schneller, Johan Jakob (1994). "Are small isolated populations of Asplenium septentrionale variable?". Biological Journal of the Linnean Society. 51 (4): 377–385. doi:10.1111/j.1095-8312.1994.tb00969.x. {{cite journal}}: Invalid |ref=harv (help); Unknown parameter |month= ignored (help)
    • Schneller, Johan Jakob; Holderegger, Rolf (1996). "Genetic variation in small, isolated fern populations". Journal of Vegetation Science. 7 (1): 113–120. doi:10.2307/3236423. {{cite journal}}: Invalid |ref=harv (help); Unknown parameter |month= ignored (help)
  • A paper discussing the hardiness of its spores, which may bear on ecology and spore dispersal:
  • Conservation Assessment by the US Forest Service for protecting the species in Oregon. Some discussion of US distribution, habitat and substrate, likely effects of fire.
  • A more detailed discussion of distribution and habitat/substrate for Europe and Asia would be useful; I haven't access to the appropriate floras.
  • Clarify the morphology of the sori. FNA says 2+ per pinna, Lellinger says that the stipes have "two abaxial grooves" and later "sori linear in each groove", Jepson "generally 1 per segment but sometimes appearing to have as many as 4, corresponding to generally the same number of teeth per segment." (I believe the teeth are vestigial pinnae.) I'm having trouble reconciling these descriptions; I've added a photo as a stopgap.

The scientific literature includes some flavonoid articles which I haven't bothered to collect; I view them as a bit too specialized to add to the article without imbalancing it. Choess (talk) 01:48, 11 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
