Africa Cup[edit]

Not sure if the tournament is happening!! CzaqrSport has reported a Tri-Series between Kenya, Uganda and Nigeria in September preceded by a List A Series between Uganda and Kenya in September. @Lugnuts: @Bs1jac: Ankurc.17 (talk) 05:45, 23 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Ankurc.17: Yes the Africa Cup has always seemed unlikely. Will leave it until we know otherwise. I have aleady drafted something for the Uganda series yesterday, using the announcement from Cricket Kenya, but I have been told by someone from Uganda that more details will be released later. Bs1jac (talk) 06:34, 23 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Just seen the similar post on Bs1jac's page. Fingers crossed this happens. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 06:45, 23 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

EAP Qualifiers[edit]

@Lugnuts: @Bs1jac: As per latest tweets from Japan cricket Association the qualifiers in EAP region have been cancelled. Ankurc.17 (talk) 12:06, 31 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks - I thought this would happen for this region. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 12:07, 31 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yep this has been known for a couple of weeks... just had to wait for an official statement. Bs1jac (talk) 12:10, 31 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
All the related pages have now been updated. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 12:56, 31 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Global Qualifiers[edit]

Shouldn't global Qualifiers move to main page? They directly feed into the World Cup. This observation is based on criterion used for earlier qualifiers and the fact that it involves Full member nations as well. @Lugnuts: @Bs1jac: Ankurc.17 (talk) 12:01, 11 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

We discussed this some time ago and decided to put all T20 qualifiers here going forward (Associate season summaries hadn't started at the time last time round). However, I do wonder if we should move them now, given that full members are involved (although only 1 out of 8 teams in each qualifier). What do you think Lugnuts? Bs1jac (talk) 12:08, 11 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
PS: If we do move them, we would need to temporarily redirect Associate international cricket in 2022 to the main season as Global Qualifier B is currently the only thing on there. Bs1jac (talk) 12:10, 11 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I think as the vast majority of the teams are Associate ones taking part, then leaving them on the Associate page is the best place for them. And with the likelyhood of the Global Qualifiers each being split into two groups of four (then a final), it would only be three, maybe four matches for Ireland or Zimbabwe in any case. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 12:15, 11 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. But are you sure about further split in groups? I read somewhere that it will be a league stage with the top two progressing. Ankurc.17 (talk) 18:26, 11 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I think they may be single round-robins, although all news out there at the moment is unofficial following leaked communications. Not sure it makes any difference though. Bs1jac (talk) 23:08, 11 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I can't recall the exact source, but I read somewhere that it was likely to be two groups of four, per qualifier, to save money (cost-cutting as the article put it). Might have been on Cricket Europe. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 11:38, 12 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies for being late to the party. This was something that piqued my attention, especially given that these do have official international status, but the Cricket World Cup Challenge Leagues with only List A status are put on the main page. Was there an explanation for this? Joalhe1997 (talk) 16:27, 11 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Have now read the next section. A lot of grey areas! Given that they are both pathway events to ICC World Cups, albeit in different formats, I do feel that either both or neither should be on the main page, given the title of the page is "Associate cricket", not "Associate T20I/WT20I cricket". Joalhe1997 (talk) 16:33, 11 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Though, it is very old discussion. But, I have noticed Cricket World Cup Challenge League A & B are on main pages. Both tournaments having only associate teams, and playing in List A formats. While, Global Qualifiers have one Full member team and some teams who have ODI status also. 42774 (talk) 06:05, 3 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Oman series[edit]

@Bs1jac and Lugnuts: Hi. Isn't it more appropriate to include the Oman quad series in International cricket in 2021–22? Ireland is a full member and the other teams have ODI status. Thanks Human (talk) 21:39, 22 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Three of the four sides are associates, its t20, and a prep tournament for the qualifier that we also decided to put in the associates season this time. We would need to move the qualifiers too if we did this. Bs1jac (talk) 21:41, 22 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
There is always going to be some overlap (same as what is 2021-22 and what is 2022). Bs1jac (talk) 22:25, 22 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I think the Oman series is best suited here, with the majority of the teams not full members. As Bs1jac said, there will be some cross-over, and the main international page is quite big/comprehensive as it is too. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 07:09, 23 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
With all due respect... Don't the Global qualifiers directly feed into WC and not into another qualifier... Based on this logic I think the Global Qualifiers should move to the main page. As far as the Quad series is concerned while the views are respected, the series still involves a test Nation and others have ODI status. If I am not wrong something similar was discussed in a Tri-Nation in Singapore involving Zimbabwe which was kept on the main page. Ref Ankurc.17 (talk) 07:58, 24 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Lugnuts, Bs1jac, and A Simple Human:
I would agree with Human and Ankurc.17 over here. It makes more sense if this series is moved to main International series. Thanks,Vikram Maingi (talk) 08:52, 26 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I disagree on this one. And as long as it's covered somewhere that's the main thing. You could also have the case of having the quad series merged into the Global A page, as they are warm-up matches... Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 09:57, 26 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Keeping that in mind then the WOrld Cup Challenge League should also be moved to the Associate page Ankurc.17 (talk) 13:58, 26 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
CWC Challenge League is not T20 though, and this page specifies T20s. Bs1jac (talk) 16:22, 28 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

There will never be a clear solution that everyone will agree on (or indeed that any of us is 100% happy with). The events that sit right on the edge between the two are the WC and T20 WC qualifiers, and I believe we have commented on this in previous seasons. It was agreed that 50-over WC pathway events would be on the main season (as there are a limited number of teams that can be involved), but that T20 qualifiers should go in AMs as the vast majority are not only AMs but often low ranked AMs. It is a bit odd having the 50-over and T20 qualifier in different places, I agree, but the cut-off has to be somewhere. Could argue that the T20 global qualifiers could move to main, and hence potentially the quad. On the other hand, the AM season pages already do not include all matches involving AMs, which can be awkward given the subject of the page. Another option could be to have any event that features both FM and AM teams on BOTH season summaries, but that would be unwieldy and repetitive. Thinking about it in another way, if a quad featuring Ireland, Oman, Nepal and UAE goes onto the main page just because Ireland are involved (and let's face it, they are a FM but not really any stronger in any sense than several associates), would the event be any more/less significant, professional or high quality than an identical event featuring Scotland instead of Ireland. It's a tricky one. For the record, I DO think there is a case for the global qualifiers to move to main... although as I said before, I also think it would negatively affect the AM page if it wasn't included here. Bs1jac (talk) 12:19, 27 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi all, I have a slightly different thought process for LoIs(Limited Over Internationals). I will divide all cricket playing into three groups.
  • Top 13 playing ICC Super League
  • Next 7 playing in World League league 2.
  • The third group contains the rest

If any bilateral series or a multi-nation series contains the playing countries from the first two categories only, i.e. not even a single one from the third category, then that series should reflect on the main page, instead of the Associate international cricket page. @Bs1jac, Lugnuts, A Simple Human, and Ankurc.17:, your inputs are very necessary will be appreciated. Thanks,Vikram Maingi (talk) 08:09, 30 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

While I agree in a sense, problems with this include: 1) The Super League is only running for one edition and the future of league 2 is unclear at this point (you could change this to mean teams with ODI status). 2) You also need to consider women's cricket. Some men's ODI (or even test) nations are much smaller in women's cricket (eg Oman, Nepal, USA, even Ireland and Zimbabwe), and vice versa (Thailand much bigger in the women's game). Wherever you put these "middle" t20 series there are pros and cons. Bs1jac (talk) 08:45, 30 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
While I do agree with the thought process and the division of teams.... I am in the process of giving in to the reasons behind keeping these series on this page. Anyways T20I WC is in comparison to ODI WC has lesser significance. so pathways to ODI WC can be kept on main page while those involving for T20I can be kept on Associate page if it involves even 1 team from the third category. Namibia Uganda[edit]

@Lugnuts and A Simple Human:. Uganda are in Namibia this week for t20 and 50-over games. Namibia announced these some time ago as being "Namibia A", and it still says this on their calendar. However, both sides have named full strength squads and Uganda now refer to "T20Is" on 8, 9 and 10 April. I guess we could create on the assumption of 3 T20Is and 2 50-over games and amend if necessary? Bs1jac (talk) 07:20, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Lugnuts and A Simple Human: Although only really that one source so far. Would certainly make sense for the t20s to be T20Is; in fact Namibia have confirmed via a personal communication. Bs1jac (talk) 08:09, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Bs1jac: Nice. Only the 50 overs seems to be against Nam A. And also dont about Zim-Nam if you find anything else. Human (talk) 08:40, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Working on it now... (before getting on with actual work!) Bs1jac (talk) 08:41, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Other series[edit]

@Bs1jac and Lugnuts: I hope CI knows that the Nam-Uga series has T20Is. Its due to start tomorrow and still no series page created by them. About the Bahamas-Cayman Island series, I'll try creating an article if Bs1jac doesn't create one. Both teams played ICC T20 WC qualifiers before and most of the Cayman players have their own articles. Atleast they deserve some kind of articles. If it gets flagged by an admin and escalates into an AfD, the votes would be redirect at worse. I just going to keep my fingers crossed try to create something. If the Bermuda-Bahamas thing exists, so can that. Human (talk) 12:04, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Good stuff. CI can be slow to add the score-cards. I think the recent women's series in Nigeria had scorecards only added after the first matches had been played. Hopefully they'll pop up shortly! Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 12:06, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@A Simple Human Hi. I have been in touch with CI regarding Namibia Uganda, and chased again today. Not sure what the delay is. For Cayman-Bahamas, there is no published info yet so don't create for now. Bahamas sent me the schedule today (on official ICC sheets) but asked not to publish it yet. Basically games are 13th (14:00), 14th (14:00), 16th (10:00 and 15:00), 17th (14:00). First two at Jimmy Powell Oval and the others at Smith Road Oval. I put these on the calander for now. Bs1jac (talk) 12:09, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Also, have Namibia named their squad yet?! Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 12:29, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
No, which is strange as they are usually pretty good. I guess they have been focusing on the Ireland games. It may well be the same squad. Bs1jac (talk) 12:55, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Bs1jac: The Ireland Wolves games were against Namibia A. If the squads are same then there are lots of debuts to be expected. Human (talk) 14:11, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I think Cricket Namibia were/are watching this page, as they tweeted their squad shortly afterwards...! :D Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 14:45, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Has the Cayman Islands Bahamas series started? Can't seem to find any coverage anywhere Ankurc.17 (talk) 10:24, 14 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
