Problem with this text?[edit]

  • Usually commercial, the weekly alternative newspapers emerged either as competiton to, or from within, the underground press in the United States in the 1970s. AAN supplanted the Underground Press Syndicate (UPS), which had tried to compete with AAN, and had even changed its name to the Alternative Press Syndicate, before collapsing.

Members[edit]

There are quite a few members listed here that are no longer in business. Also, I very much doubt the circulation numbers are up to date. Spoonpassport (talk) 04:33, 26 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The circulation figures in the table should have sources, and that they don't is a big problem. Hopefully some of them come at least come from the linked articles with sources held there. This is a very bad-quality article so any improvements you can make will be appreciated. If I had the time I'd go through the respective articles and look for sources elsewhere, and I'd add in parentheses after each circulation figure the date that it had that circulation. — Bilorv (talk) 10:51, 26 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Current, tho self-submitted, numbers, may be found at AAN.org. Spoonpassport (talk) 12:21, 26 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Pulitzers[edit]

Several member altweeklies have won Pulitzers. That seems pretty important.
