How did they make their wealth?[edit]

This article has nothing on how they made this enormous fortune, except in "business". Could somebody please elaborate? Thanks. 109.77.226.141 (talk) 14:00, 4 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I saw a comment replying to my connected families list name. The current listed on the page are only families that wished we associated with them. We do not. That needs to be fixed. The earliest Astors made their wealth through profiting from the drug trade (ie; heroine). As well as the fur trade. Astoria fort being the first base of the Astor fur trading business for which I am named after. The Astor’s were also landlords. Ones who lacked empathy and cared only to fund their own lavish lives. The lower generations grew greedy and put themselves above others. Not to mention the indentity thefts many suffered from their carelessness and substance indulgences. I have also had some information of Astors being affiliated with illegal brothels and sex trafficking. Other Astors chose to practice a humble career and cut themselves off from the “family business” or invested their inheritances. Astoriaaldrich (talk) 14:04, 31 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

That would be opium not heroin as heroin was not invented until decades after the family left the opium trade. RichardBond (talk) 00:34, 7 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Astor origins[edit]

The first Astors came by way of Africa. Through Egypt (St Helena) and then up to the Mediterranean (Greece). After settling in Germany, Astors eventually made their way to America and then Canada Astoriaaldrich (talk) 13:56, 31 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Astors were not protestants they were/are Jewish and have ancestral roots from Africa then mainly Greece NOT Italy. Germany felt the Astors presence then America and Canada. This article is false and missing information. Any improvements are constantly being reverted (for personal/special interest??) The connected family list should only read ; Webster , Rothschild, Rockefeller, Romanov, and Aldrich. Astoriaaldrich (talk) 02:01, 1 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

As well, the Astors are Tajik when looking to ethnic and cultural reference. Astoriaaldrich (talk) 02:29, 1 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Not done those families either lack articles or don't have known members who married an Astor. You also neglected to provide any references to support the other parts. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 03:56, 1 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Retort to snoogs[edit]

Yes they did marry in. And just because you marry into a family does not make you connected, nor welcome. I don’t think you understand how it works. I know my lineage and my history. Please stop editing a page you clearly have little to no knowledge on. Astoriaaldrich (talk) 03:09, 1 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Infobox family says otherwise on families. That's not a field to just insert random names. Whether you personally consider someone "welcome" is irrelevant. If a family doesn't have their own Wikipedia article (Aldrichs and Websters don't like I noted above), then there's no point in adding it regardless of marriage connections as such text wouldn't take readers anywhere. As for where the family ancestors came from, Germany has been well-documented; John Jacob Astor along with his brothers and parents were known to have been born there. Any other location would need citations to verify them. Same goes for religious affiliation(s). SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 03:50, 1 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
