Some merged text[edit]

Hi!
About 26 December 2007 I merged some of the contents of Lip sync error into Audio to video synchronization, with the intent to make Lip sync error a redirect to Audio to video synchronization. Somebody reverted the redirect - and that is why this text has been added to the discussion page. I still propose that this article should be made a redirect to Audio to video synchronization.--Glenn (talk) 19:41, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Suggest New Page for PTS[edit]

The instant article discusses only one use of PTS, i.e., for A/V synchronization. In general, PTS is used to establish encoder/decoder synchronization, even if audio or video are coded alone. This, PTS should be split off onto a new page that describes it at a higher level. algocu (talk) 16:40, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ahead and behind[edit]

I removed this paragraph from the article:

"Audio is considered to be "ahead" of the video when it plays before the corresponding video and "behind" the video when it plays after the corresponding video, in numerical terms the difference is positive when audio is ahead and negative when audio is behind. Conversely, video is considered to be "ahead" of the audio when it plays before the corresponding audio and "behind" the audio when it plays after the corresponding audio."

First, it was wholly unsourced. Second, it was in the lead section but there was no part of the body of the article which discussed it. Third, it was simplistic and I felt, unneeded.

To put material in the article, cite it, per WP:CITE. For qualified useful text, add it to the article body first, then tweak the lead section to include it, without undue weight, as the lead section is purely a summary of the article. Finally, the words "ahead" and "behind" are so basic as to include anything arriving earlier or later in time, making the paragraph unnecessary. Alright however I believe that there needs to be a specification somewhere defining where the mathematical representation would be negative and positive. 130.56.85.35 (talk) 23:13, 8 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Why? Binksternet (talk) 01:28, 9 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Because specifications of things like perceptability of a/v sync differences are in those terms (e.g., +90ms to -185ms) -- without knowing which direction is positive, it's difficult to understand. I'm going to add something like this back in, and cite to ITU-R Rec. B.1359, which says "a positive value indicates that sound is advanced with respect to vision" Adamgoldberg (talk) 12:15, 30 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
True, it is important to know the direction. For complete clarity, the direction needs to be fully described. Just specifying a signed number is not sufficient as not everyone agrees with the CEA convention. ~Kvng (talk) 09:45, 2 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

CEA-CEB-20[edit]

I added a reference to CEA-CEB-20, a recommended practice on how receceivers should implement AV Sync in transport streams. Adamgoldberg (talk) 12:51, 30 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Contradictory data in different sources[edit]

This article reads that "a positive time number indicates the audio leads the video", but I have found quite the opposite. According to this rather reliable book: "Positive values indicate that the video leads the audio." So where is the truth? 85.193.217.247 (talk) 17:16, 2 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Errors[edit]

@TVtech: "amounts of .. errors" is grammatically incorrect, as '"errors" is countable. However based on your comment the issue would seem to be the use of "errors", plural, rather than the singular. I have modified appropriately. Thank you. Neils51 (talk) 09:21, 6 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Terminology and spelling[edit]

I seem to be having a slow-motion edit war with TVtech who has not given a justification for including material listing alias and spelling options for the subject here. The material in question is here. My original reason, given in an edit comment, for rejecting this addition was, "rm tangential nattering about terminology, doesn't seem critical enough to appear in the lead, restore to body if necessary, I don't think it's necessary." Additionally, a link to a Google search is not an adequate reference for the claims here. ~Kvng (talk) 13:43, 10 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
