Membership Check?[edit]

In most jurisdictions, to be registered as a political party, the party must have a certain number of official members (500 in Victoria). The membership check is an audit conducted by the electoral commission to confirm whether the members claimed by the party reach that threshold, and that they are real people on the electoral roll. If the party doesn't meet that threshold, it is deregistered. Presumably a low voting count can trigger such a check as it may be indicative that the party's claimed members are not voting for the party they are members of.
