As well as things mentioned at wikipedia:Australian Wikipedians' notice board#Melbourne-Sydney rivalry, I can think of:

  • Squabbles over federal funding (did the NSW government advertising include photos of cane toads?), especially surprising as the squabbling states are all governed by the same political party.
  • Sporting events and public flags (eg some other state's flag flying on the Sydney Harbour Bridge if Sydney/NSW lost some sporting event)

  • Internal regional rivalry Launceston and Hobart in Tasmania since their establishment; there is a very obscure article about when the west coast was on a parity with those two in population and had made Tasmania a triangulated power struggle, but the fall of the zeehan mines before first world war saw it all evaporate.
  • Tasmanian anxiety about being left off the australian map and symbols that utilise it, is not necessary rivalry, anyone with any sense of rivalry between the mainland and poor old tassie?User:SatuSuro 14:00, 9 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
