2017 taxonomic revision of Avicularia species[edit]

Avicularia urticans has been Avicularia urticans was brought into synonymy in 2017, and the binomial name is now Avicularia juruensis.

None of the content that was at this title when it was an article has been used in the new Avicularia juruensis article. Peter coxhead (talk) 08:55, 31 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Merger proposal[edit]

In light of the above, I propose that Avicularia urticans be merged into Avicularia juruensis. DiverDave (talk) 14:18, 2 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

There's nothing to be merged. Peter coxhead (talk) 16:15, 2 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
To clarify this comment, I've copied here part of a reply to DiverDave from my talk page. There is nothing at the old version to be merged. The taxobox is by definition wrong since it's not an accepted species now. The only information that is now correct is "... was first ... by G.E.W. Schmidt in 1994", where the missing bits now have to be different from the original, since now we have to say that the synonym was first created by Schmidt, not species first described. Further, in the Avicularia urticans article it's not correctly sourced – you must not reference the authority for a name from the primary source; a reliable secondary source must be used. Peter coxhead (talk) 16:45, 2 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
While the article is here, it must be accurate, so I have added material from the article Avicularia juruensis. Peter coxhead (talk) 16:36, 2 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Looking into it, it seems that the correct procedure is to convert this article to a redirect, as I did, but to add {{R with history}}, which is specifically provided for converting articles to redirects when there hasn't been a merge. Peter coxhead (talk) 08:40, 3 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
