reasonably good article

you guys don't know what real commercial spam would look like: it would be an article here listing all of their major products--not just mentioning a few major product lines-- with links to individual product websites, with WP articles about every major line, with a 4 paragraph bio of the founder, with a paragraph on each executive, linked to their personal websites, if possible to articles about some of them, and with links to every worldwide associated company, and to every individual division in the company.

This is a remarkably sober article for a major company--too sober if anything--and I have tagged it for expansion. There are major topics not discussed in enough depth, including their sales methods which have been widely imitated, its method of franchising, etc. , though they are mentioned in the first paragraph. Astoundingly, there is not even a WP article on the founder!
Most articles for companies this size have --appropriately--much more information on the financial and corporate history. This part really needs expansion.
If you are wondering, I have no connection with the company, never use their products, and ignore their ads. DGG 04:21, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Avon logo.png

Image:Avon logo.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 21:49, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

Network Marketing Companies

[1] I have worked with many MLM companies and this one is the only one that I have been able to make any money with. Sure the other ones have people making money and I don;t think they are doing anything wrong.Gpw123 19:51, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

Separate from 3Day

I think they are separate entities. A few products were indeed distributed during the walks, and there was AVON name recognition, and AVON teams, but the 3Day is not a company product sold to consumers. rkmlai (talk) 19:45, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

Proposed merger with Avon Sales Leadership (UK)

Merges completed

I merged Avon Walk for Breast Cancer and Avon Sales Leadership (UK), although removed most content from the latter as it was unencyclopedic. - Pontificalibus (talk) 21:13, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

I'm still going to tag this as a bit unencyclopedic and that it needs way more cleanup. It's on it's way, but it's lacking free use images (There's no proof the logo and product are for fair use)XxReikoxX - The Visual Asia Geek (talk) 23:26, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

Consideration to be stubbed

This is an unusually short article. Is somebody deleting the stub tags? Also, the section on the Avon subdiversion mark. needs to be lengthened. Mark is the main actual makeup brand. It should be given its own page.SOMEBODY PLEASE DUB THIS ARTICLE A STUB!!!!!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.73.162.96 (talk) 01:21, 4 December 2010 (UTC)

Untitled

This entire article reads like an advertisement--Everett3 08:31, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

I agree. This page sounds more like an Ad more than an article. I don't know too many details about the subject so I can't change it but somebody should look into changing it a little bit.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Renacakes (talkcontribs).

Seems Ok to me. Citations would be nice though. Naysie 05:28, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

I assume AVON had a hand in writing this article or if I'm being more charitable somebody has lifted wholesale sections of AVON's website. The article reads way too much like a corporate PR release including a few giveaway references to the company in the first person.92.41.189.199 (talk) 01:37, 30 April 2011 (UTC)

Article needs heavy editing

Just come across this article via discussion on Talk:Vector Marketing and HOLY CRAP, this article reeks of neglect. I like to take a few days to get things incompliance with WP:POLICY, and/or possibly restart this article as a stub. Phearson (talk) 04:03, 3 June 2011 (UTC)

Clean up and Review

I have Messed about with article the best I could. I would like opinions of other editors. Phearson (talk) 21:36, 4 June 2011 (UTC)

History missing information?

The sidebar says the company was founded in 1885. An MSN article also says it is 125 years old. Why does the History section only have 1929 as the earliest date? 75.171.2.20 (talk) 20:55, 14 December 2011 (UTC)

Could you please link that article? Phearson (talk) 01:42, 16 December 2011 (UTC)

Tiffany & Co.?

Avon owned Tiffany & Co. for a period of time, didn't they? Why isn't this in the article? --RThompson82 (talk) 04:01, 29 August 2012 (UTC)

Name

I believe it's important to include since it represents something essential about the company - its name. It is widely believed that McConnell visited England and particularly Stratford-on-Avon and was captivated by the serenity of the English countryside, so he adopted the name of the river Avon. Green light to include? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.204.40.201 (talk) 21:29, 22 May 2015 (UTC)

Avon France

Avon was supposedly keeping its employees "in the dark" for months. Is this meant literally, i.e. with little or no light, or in the common figurative meaning 'uninformed' ('we were kept in the dark about the takeover bid')? English-speaking readers will not know which is intended.62.49.71.161 (talk) 13:27, 24 September 2015 (UTC)

New CEO

Hi there, Just to disclose upfront, I work in the Digital Team for Avon and would like to help ensure information on the page is factually correct.

I just wanted to say that a change can now be made to the information about the CEO, as a new CEO has recently been appointed: On 5 February 2018, Avon appointed Jan Zijderveld as new CEO, effective immediately.[1]

I was wondering if an editor might be able to update the Avon page to bring this information up to date? Many thanks! DigitalCommunications (talk) 11:07, 7 February 2018 (UTC)

Done AlanYoung (talk) 20:33, 7 February 2018 (UTC)

Thank you AlanYoung. If there's any chance of updating the copy in the first paragraph which also mentions the CEO name, that would be great. Thanks again! DigitalCommunications (talk) 10:59, 8 February 2018 (UTC)

 Done
Didn't even cross my mind to update the introduction. Good call.

Celebrity Beauty Ambassadors

The Celebrity Beauty Ambassadors section is very limited and the small information that is there is weirdly edited and nonsensical in some areas. Don’t know anything about Avon nor do I know what the original creators intentions were with the article so I don’t feel comfortable editing it, but thought it was worth pointing out in case someone is. Ponzi Scam?

Isn't Avon basically like Amway, a direct-sales company, often noted as a "legal Pyramid scheme"? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 161.43.217.70 (talk) 02:12, 21 January 2015 (UTC)

Avon is, like Amway and many others, a multi-level marketing company. The connection between MLM and pyramid schemes is discussed at the MLM article. Grayfell (talk) 02:25, 21 January 2015 (UTC)
Is it? Is there a source that salespeople get revenue from the sales of people they recruit? OrangeDog (τ • ε) 14:04, 27 September 2017 (UTC)

I just read the article and was surprised to see Avon described as an MLM company. I think the reps make money by selling direct to the public, not by recruiting other reps and selling to them. The reps are also not forced to hold inventory - they only order from Avon when they get a customer order. In fact, if you look at the reference cited to say that Avon is an MLM company, it actually implies the opposite:

"Multilevel marketing, an innovation on the traditional direct-sales model that encouraged salespeople to recruit new members as well as to make sales, has kept Avon's competitors profitable, but Avon has resisted change, Keep said.

In dropping out of the Direct Selling Association, Avon joins Tupperware, another iconic direct-sales brand that has become leery of the "direct sales" label. "We didn't leave direct selling," Tupperware chief executive officer Rick Goings told The Wall Street Journal last year. "Direct selling left us, because the industry became dominated by buying clubs and what looked like pyramid schemes."

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2014/09/16/avon-splits-with-trade-group-citing-risk-of-pyramid-schemes/?arc404=true

I'll wait to see if anyone objects and can find a reliable source that says Avon is MLM, but if not, I am going to replace "MLM" with "direct sales".

There are multiple, massive lawsuits around how they classify and treat employees. Why is this not in the controversies? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.142.147.128 (talk) 23:09, 26 December 2020 (UTC)

New Avon LLC (Avon USA)

At RepFest in New Orleans in the summer of 2019, a large group of US Avon Representatives were presented to Paul Yi, the new owner of New Avon LLC. He also owns LG H&H. He stood on the stage in front of us and spoke clearly and sincerely, telling us of his plans now that we were now NOT members of Avon international any more. Therefore our home office is NOT London, England, and they're numbers have absolutely nothing to do with US numbers, Puerto Rico numbers, nor Canadian numbers. All of us are part of Paul Yi's New Avon LLC. We now have access to his cleaning products, Homestar cleaning products are in our over 200 page brochures, along with Cucina and Sirius Pet Grooming Aids. We of course still carry our well known Sterling Silver jewelry, top of the line clothing. I just wore one of the dresses I bought to wear to the first Avon Convention in 1997 in Orlando, Florida, and someone wanted to know if they could order it when I said it was from Avon. Anew skin care is still here and Vitamin C has made it's comeback. But the most important edit is that New Avon LLC is a stand alone entity, and has been so for quite some time. Please don't quote any US numbers for your purposes. They don't give you a true picture. We're working very hard on our own new views. You need to look to your views and let people see what you're view of the future looks like. We're having Convention the end of August and I'll post the new view of the New Avon LLC from our announcement session. New Avon LLC is our own entity, and we should be able to be seen as such, NOT ride on someone else's coattails. Thank you for your time.Ladiemarci (talk) 01:44, 1 August 2021 (UTC)
