Isn't this an article for the advertisement? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.128.238.133 (talk) 17:03, 12 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

BGI is borned from "Beijing Genomics Institute", and they should be different things. Galaxy (talk) 08:46, 28 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This article reads like an advert, and a particularly blatant one at that; this thing needs a COMPLETE overhaul. --50.68.41.27 (talk) 02:49, 18 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. It reads like promotional material that just talks up all of the “good stuff”. JohnSmith13345 (talk) 04:35, 19 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Gryphon report[edit]

Here's a report by a think tank called Gryphon Scientific, which mentioned BGI. Since they are charged with evaluating the threats to national security of Chinese biotechnology companies, I don't think they will be unnecessarily promotional.

BCI had a public offering, which meant they had to issue a detailed, candid financial report. However, I couldn't find it online, and it may only be in Chinese. If anyone can find the initial public offering, it would be a great source of both scientific and business information. --Nbauman (talk) 02:24, 5 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

California COVID-19 test lab offer[edit]

Here's a story from the Washington Post about how in early April, BCI offered to build -- at cost -- the world's largest COVID-19 testing site in California, in 2 weeks, and train Americans to operate it. This was after the US CDC test had failed and the US federal and state agencies struggling to get testing capacity, which was desperately needed to control the epidemic. California had scientific and business consultants. The business consultants recommended against it, because of the risk of security and commercial competition. Some of the scientific consultants thought it was a good idea. The business consultants may have had a conflict of interest, since BCI would potentially be competing with them. But besides the specific offer, this story illustrates the kind of scientific, business and political issues companies like BCI are dealing with.

Advisers told the state to steer clear of BGI, underscoring U.S.-China tech tension

As California raced to expand coronavirus testing this spring, advisers to the state noticed one company pitching particularly hard to assist: China’s BGI Group.

The company’s U.S. subsidiary and one of BGI’s partners were approaching city, county and state officials with offers to sell supplies and help set up entire labs, proposing to export a rapid testing model that they said had helped contain China’s outbreak.

In the end, the advisers recommended that California exercise caution about BGI and its U.S. subsidiary, CGI; one of the advisers recommended avoiding them all together....

“We propose to establish the world’s largest COVID-19 testing facility through a public private partnership," said an April 5 proposal that BGI’s U.S. subsidiary sent state officials, the mayor of San Jose and task force members, including Kocher. “By working with the state’s existing CLIA testing labs, this operation could be running tests in less than 2 weeks,” it added.

Lead[edit]

First sentence changed to BGI Group, formerly Beijing Genomics Institute, is a Chinese genomics company with headquarters in Shenzhen, China as per MOS:OPEN and MOS:OPEN. The links with PLA and government are in the 3rd paragraph of the lead already. - Shedoesit (talk) 10:02, 22 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

BGI Group[edit]

The BGI group is a private entity and BGI Genomics is a publicly traded company in which the BGI group has the stake. The argument of the parent company and the holding company is BGI Genomics is disagreeable and lacks of knowledge.

If you need BGI Genomics, you should have a completely different article without changing the BGI Group, which has many subsidiary companies that are not connected in any way with BGI Genomics.

A discussion is called before making such a move. Shedoesit (talk) 16:26, 22 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Can you prove that with WP:RS? - Amigao (talk) 17:23, 22 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
BGI Group is the parent company and BGI Genomics is its subsidiary along with many others is easily discerned. This is nothing but WP:BLUE. You have moved a stable title unanimously without any discussion even when it was opposed, and asking me for WP:RS when you are the one who proposed the change! You are ignoring it for the reasons best known to you. Still here Primary source and secondary source for your immediate look. - Shedoesit (talk) 06:24, 23 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • I've reverted to the stable title (BGI Group). Please start a move request per WP:RM#CM if you want the article to be moved. —Mx. Granger (talk · contribs) 21:23, 22 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
