Often used to refer to the AGN itself, rather than the host galaxy[edit]

The article's first sentence currently identifies the term as only referring to the entire galaxies themselves, despite the fact that from early suggestions that they were evidence of AGNs (e.g. Bergeron, J. (1978) "Quasars and BL Lac Objects as Active Nuclei of Giant Galaxies" The Messenger, vol. 12, p. 5-6. ESO.), to more recent publications, e.g.
